    If you want to be an active member of the community, I recommend getting teamspeak (If that is an available option), becoming a regular on the forums, and doing your best to make friends with people on the server.

    That pretty much sums it up :V
    But I would like to add for #6 there...
    1. Only apply once you feel comfortable with responsibility and know that you will be respected
    2. Apply when people know who you are both in-game and on the forums
    3. Have 200+ posts before you apply
    4. Your app needs to be long and detailed with correct grammar and spelling. 30 minutes of effort makes all the difference.
