    This concept is that, when you hit a zombie, just like when you hit them. You have a chance to break the zombies legs, this will slow down the zombie but yet on the down side it makes it more blood-thirsty, enabling it to deal more damage.

    Zombies are dead, lifeless creatures, braking their legs would make no difference to them

    You have a point. However, this is Minecraft, and Minecraft isn't realistic either (enderdragons, creepers, etc).
