Now, I've been thinking about posting this thread for some time and the more I think about it, the more thought provoking it is. Have you ever wondered what a player would be portrayed as if they used a different weapon? Does the weapon of choice actually effect a players reputation? I think the answer is yes,and heres why.
As a new player to mc-war(when I first got online) There were several "well known" players that existed on server 10, people like Serverin23, megau35, and peud10 (all of which have stopped playing unfourunently). They had gained a reputation though the use of there weapons.
So, would joeymast be one of the most popular players if he constatntly used the iso? probably not.
    You get my point
Im not going to ramble on to long but I want to hear people's input on if the gun makes the player

I agree partly with what you're saying, but I don't think getting moderator status has anything to do with using the mini gun.

Depending in the gun, it can change peoples level of skill and increase their reputation as a skilled player.

I don't think the gun affects the reputation unless you use the raygun every round :V
    EDIT: Or the moddel

This. For example of this, I am insanely good with the lemantation and it did change my skill and it did increase my reputation, most people see me as a pro and great friend and a fun to play with player. The better you get with a weapon that takes skill to use then most people will see you as a pro.

I think both ways are true.
A player can achieve great things with tier 6 guns, but a very skilled player can make any gun, including starter weapons, into destructive forces.
Like I said before, no gun is underpowered. Its just how the player uses his abilities to overcome limitations in weaponry.

This. EMP'ed with SPAS12 and USP, then the match ended. If I had used the SPAS12 and EMP'ed with it like I did, quite often, I think people would hate me for "hacking," but others would respect me for my skill.

Depends on skill level, this is based on the title flipped, the player makes the gun..

If you want to be known to everyone as the guy who can nuke with most/all the weapons, that can define your skill. If you always use the snipers, but one day say try out the skullchrusher and do terrible, your skill level is defined as a sniper. The guns do play a huge role in skill. Another gigantic factor is teams. If you get into a good clan say TRA, Zyth, HACK, GSG, etc. and pretty much nuke all the time when on their teams, but can barely maintain a positive KDR when against them, that also defines skill. There are so many individual factors that define a player's performance level, even some of the smallest details can change someone.
Overall, yes, weapons do show skill in a player, but that is not the only factor that shows this. (After rereading this, I have no idea what I put down, but I am sticking too it)

I don't want to sound coccky, but almost every weapon I pick up I can make work on almost every map.
I constantly nuke with weapons like the AK 47, flamethrower, and m4a1 for fun. In my opinion, a true skilled player can nuke with any weapon
The weapon that is chosen most of the time for most people, is the one that is easiest to nuke with.
But there are people that I can anticipate what gun they would use on most maps.
    DreadlordsCousin: ray gun
    Mebmatt: iso
    Cbsusd: crossbow

Ah. Well, if that's the case, you're most well known for the crossbow. I just saw this today when I joined server 4:
"joey is a *****. he uses xbow EVERY game. hes worst player ever every1 should hate him"

This is only true on the negative side.

You can get branded a bad player if you are constantly:
    1. Using Raygun on TDMs or CTFs (perhaps also mingun) - due to the little amount of skill required to kill, relying on mainly the explosion damage or scatter effect
    2. Using ISO on every single level - due to the randomness of single shot kill no matter where you hit someone.

CBow has not yet got a bad reputation because there actually is a degree of skill in arcing your shots to achieve a double kill of someone off in the distance.

To me, I could care less what gun I, or anyone else, use.
It's all about how skilled you are as a player. If a level 8 gets an 8kdr, I consider them better than someone who uses an arsenal of prestige weaponry.
If you can, and will, use any weapon to demolish the other team, then you're a pretty damn good player.
