Does the gun make the player?

Not exactly. They would be a noob, but not an "M16" noob.
The M16 is a weaker weapon and if you can efficiently get kills with it then you aren't a noob.
But the REAL definition of noob is new player.

Maybe. Its hard to explain how people interpret the word "noob"
If you are using ray every round and you are level 10 and you think your good, your a noob
If you use ray every round and do bad with it, consequently, you are a noob since you use an OP gun not even to its potential.
If you use a ray gun every round and you nuke with it constantly then you aren't a noob, but you aren't pro. In other words, if someone calls you a ray noob and you then nuke, they look stupid because.... last time I checked, nukes aren't nooby.

 

Personally, I disagree with the word noob. It's looking down on new or not as skilled players, and I'm sure that you would've been a 'noob' once, joey.

 

If players always use donator guns, they can for sure loose their reputation.
But some players are characterized with some weapons (Sonicluke :V).
Personally I use the weapon that fits for the map, but I make sure not to use donor guns in non-infect/ffa often,
I experienced that I can get a lot of kills with donor weapons on a few maps, but its more challenging with non-donor weapons.
Also I'm such a quickscope noob so I don't use isolator often, which prevents me from getting called iso nub.

 

It makes me sad sometimes that people are afraid to use certain weapons in certain gamemodes because they might be verbally attacked.

I have an alternate account at level six with a 4.3 kdr. Well I use to until I went afk. (Before you got kicked for afk)
So I was there afk for like 3 hours on a small server where Gungame and FFA and one in occurs very often. :/
Now the katas kdr is 2.1

If I used the Iso, someone would be surprised, because I am known for hating the iso.
Same thing with someone who hates donators, and uses a crossbow every round.
Once i saw someone call someone on his team a crossbow noob, while he was using it too. -_-

I'm the same way, I change my playing style with each gun I use, so I'm a different player with each choice. I'm a campy tanking noob with shotguns, a back-line camper with sniper, I'm rush with Autos, and I actually have a different strategy for each individual pistol...
