Lately, I have become infatuated with a new game, Realm of the Mad God. (rotmg, or just Realm) You can play the game in-browser at their website here, or you can download it on Steam. It is a very complicated game that accommodates for all types of players, casual or serious, new or old, and is very enjoyable. There is a great guide here that gives all sorts of information and vocabulary.

    Premise
The premise is that you are trapped in the realm of Oryx the Mad God, and you have to fight to survive against his minions. Once you defeat all of his minions, he summons you to his castle. There, you fight through his soldiers until, at last, you do final battle with Oryx himself and defeat him.

    Classes and Stats
In the game, there are 14 different classes to play as. There are four equip slots for each class: A weapon, an ability, armor, and a ring. Stats are the abilities of a character. Each class has the same eight stats, but they can be increased to different levels depending on the class, and every time you level up your stats increase (again, the amount of increase depends on the class). You can see the details here. These stats are:
    • Dexterity (dex) - How fast you can fire your weapon.
    • Defense (def) - The amount of true damage subtracted from damage dealt. If an enemy deals 10 damage and you have 3 def, you will take 7 damage.
    • Attack (att) - How much damage is dealt. Each point of att increases your damage by a tiny percent.
    • Speed (spd) - Pretty self explanatory. Spd is the speed at which your character can walk.
    • Wisdom (wis) - The speed that your Mana regenerates.
    • Vitality (vit) - The speed that your hit points regenerate.
    • Life (life) - Your max health.
    • Mana (mana) - Your max mana.
Stats can be increased by drinking stat potions (pots). Each pot increases its corresponding stat by one point, except for Life and Mana, which increase by 5. You can get stat pots as rare drops from some of the very difficult enemies. They are very colorful, and look like this:
    • Potion of Dexterity: [IMG]
    • Potion of Attack: [IMG]
    • Potion of Defense: [IMG]
    • Potion of Speed: [IMG]
    • Potion of Wisdom: [IMG]
    • Potion of Vitality: [IMG]
    • Potion of Life: [IMG]
    • Potion of Mana: [IMG]
Weapons: Each of the six types of weapons are used for different classes. The play-style for the class can be determined by the weapon, so I will refer to types of classes by their weapon.
    • Swords - Short range, but tons of damage. Used by Warriors, Knights, and Paladins.
    • Daggers - Medium range, medium damage. Used by Rogues, Assassins, and Tricksters.
    • Staves - High range, medium damage. Used by Wizards, Mystics, and Necromancers.
    • Bows - High range, low damage, and piercing shots. (when tiered) Used by Archers and Huntresses.
    • Wands - Very high range, low-medium damage. Used by Priests and Sorcerers.
    • Katanas - Medium range, medium damage, and piercing shots. Used exclusively by Ninjas.
Armor: There are three types of armor used by different classes. They differ based on the class.
    • Light Armor - Usually looks like leather armor, light armor gives up to 17 def, and grants up to 5 dex. It is used by Archers, Assassins, Rogues, Tricksters, Ninjas, and Huntresses.
    • Heavy Armor - It has the appearance of heavy plate armor, and the highest tier has 24 def (although there is an untiered one with 30). It is used by Warriors, Knights, and Paladins.
    • Robes - It is the typical magical vestments worn by your average magical being. A high tier robe will grant the wearer increased attack, defense, wisdom, and max mp. They are used by Wizards, Mystics, Necromancers, Priests, and Sorcerers.
Abilities: Abilities are unique to each class. You can view them via the classes link I previously provided. They are activated by pressing the space bar, and they cost mana.

Rings: Contrary to the abilities, rings can be used by any and all classes. There are 6 tiers of rings, as well as untiered. The different tiers have different prefixes they go like so:
    1. T1 rings have no prefix. They grant 4 stat points, or 40 max hp or mana.
    2. Greater. They grant 5 stat points, or 80 max hp or mana.
    3. Superior. They grant 6 stat points, or 100 max hp or mana.
    4. Paramount. They grant 7 stat points, or 120 max hp or mana.
    5. Exalted. They grant 8 stat points, or 140 max hp or mana.
    6. Unbound. They grant 9 stat points, or 180 max hp or mana.

Levels: Characters can be anywhere from level 1 to 20. You get "quests" for enemies of different strength depending on your level, and killing the object of a quest gives you more xp than killing one normally. If you decide to go to the god lands immediately upon making a new character, (god lands are explained in the next section) gods can only give you as much xp as 10% of what you need to level up. You don't actually have to kill an enemy to receive xp, or even damage it, but you need to be within a certain range.

    Realms
When you join a realm, you spawn at the beach. The beach looks something like this:
As you go inland a little bit, you will find forests and minor enemies. These are the enemies that lower level characters are supposed to fight.

The God Lands are where you usually find Event Bosses, (lv 20 quests that usually require a large group of lv 20 characters to kill) and they lie as far inland as you can go. They have either blackened or snow white terrain, and they are inhabited by the gods explained here.
All the gods are very dangerous, and I would not advise entering until you have reached level 20 unless you are experienced and feel you are ready.

    Tiered and Untiered Items
In rotmg, there are 12 tiers of weapons, 13 tiers of armor, 6 tiers of abilities, and 6 tiers of rings.. They drop in different loot bags, depending on the tier. Untiered weapons have two ranks: Normal Untiered, and Untiered Tops.
    • Brown Bag - They look like potato sacks, and at least potato sacks have food in them. The stuff you get from brown bags is free for all. Anyone who walks over a brown bag can take what's inside. Brown Bags contain items tier 1-4.
    • Purple Bag - Referred to by Realm elitists as "purple trash bags", the Purple Bag is the lowest level soulbound bag. That means that only you can see them, and only you can open them. They can hold loot that is l untiered as well as tier 5-9.
    • Dark Blue Bag - Sometimes called a Potion Bag, a Dark Blue Bag holds the aforementioned stat potions or pet eggs, and pretty much anything else that spawns with it. If you get a Potions Bag, it means you earned yourself a stat potion or a pet egg. They are a dark blue, round bag with a gold ribbon tying it shut.
    • Light Blue Bag - These are the top tier loot bags. They hold loot tiers 10-13, and
    • White Bags - The most prestige bag in rotmg, the White Bag holds UT Tops. These are usually the rarest and best items in the game, and they are extremely prestige. They can drop from any dungeon boss, and some Event Bosses as well.
    HUD
I probably should have explained this sooner :V but here it is. Your hud.
Above the name is a minimap. Unfortunately, the screenshot does not accommodate, but it's a bit hard to miss. You can zoom in and out with your scroll wheel, as well as setting hotkeys to zoom in manually. You can click on the names of other players (yellow) to teleport to them. Large groups of lv 20 players are usually in the god lands or fighting an Event Boss, so beware! Once you reach lv 20, your xp bar turns orange and reads "Fame". Fame is a currency you use to feed and fuse pets, as well as create and upgrade guild halls. Once you die you can collect your fame. Your hp and mp bars don't have a numerical amount unless you put your mouse over, but for the sake of demonstration I shopped a couple images together so you can see. The four items below are my current equips. I have a sword (weapon), a shield (ability), a
chest plate (armor), and a ring. The 8 slots below that are filled with weapons, stat pots, and other goodies is my inventory. There are three tabs between the equip slots and the inventory. The first one is your inv, the second one shows your other 6 stats (life and mana are always visible), and the third shows your pet and its stats. The two slots under the inv with the other pots on them are for hp and mp pots. They restore 100 hp and 100 mp respectively, and you can carry up to 6 at a time. The 8 slots below that are a bag I am standing on. It's a screenshot of one of my most recent white bag drops where I got a spirit dagger. Usually what appears there are the names of players within a certain distance of you. You can click on the names to either trade or teleport.

    Trading

Trading is a huge part of the game. If there is an item you don't need, or an item that you desperately want, you can buy them from other players (except for untiered ones. Currently untiered items are soulbound). Simply switch your server to USWest (if it's not already) and head to the nexus. Start spamming whatever it is you want to buy/sell, and wait for the trade requests to come rolling in. The currency of the game is in stat pots. I have a handy conversion chart here that shows how much each type of pot is worth in comparison to def, the staple currency of rotmg.
I'll have to make some edits:
    It's 2 wis = 1 def*
    1 Life = 6 def*
3 dex = 1 def, but it's so easy to get you really shouldn't count on being able to buy anything with it
2 spd = 1 def. It's possible to get 3, but difficult and a waste of time.

I recommend this game to all of you, and I hope my wisdom (not wis) helps you. If you don't want to play, I don't remember giving you a choice, so tough luck. If there are any things you have questions about, just ask me!

    i need more friends ;-;

RotMG is a horrible game to this day after what Kabam did to the game in September 2012. I was once a really pro player until I left and rarely came back.

They fixed that after all the pro player killed their characters and quit :v
It's actually really easy now. I got a 6/8 rogue in 4 days and a 5/8 knight in one.

It's still hard to get stat pots in Godlands and duping was like the biggest thing back then. I would still be playing to this day if my account wasn't hacked by some jackass. However, my Minecraft account wouldn't be here today if I didn't leave RotMG in 2012.

One of my favorite games. Though "Great Dungeon In the Sky" is better. The same people made them.
