    As most of you know, the McBrawl forums receive many mod applications made by new members who didn't know about forums activity and Teamspeak 3 and so on. The applications are denied immediately by an admin like Putty or Yinscape but before that, us forum members would leave comments on the thread like SNN and "you are new here so -1". This will most likely make the new member to leave the forums all because his/her application was "harshly" denied. I propose something that will probably change the forums permanently but in a positive way.

    The mod applications section must be removed.

    We've had many people of all sorts of ages make an application and most of the time, they will be denied. For those of you who remember Tac's rant on the community, he already mentioned that there is only one way to get a position and that is Teamspeak. He even provided examples to prove his statement. Anyone who is over 14 doesn't have to make an application, they could have around 150+ messages and chat with Putty everyday and still get promoted. I do go on Teamspeak just to chat with my friends on McBrawl but I never once chatted with Putty in a room. Furthermore, most new members who make the application haven't even heard of Teamspeak and there is no rules or anything that lists what you need to become a moderator.

    About the applications, most of us can already tell if an application is denied or not. We all know that if a person who is already a moderator on one server makes an application on another, it'll most likely be accepted because we all give +1's. You could just tell if an application will be accepted or not and even better if you go on Teamspeak often.

    However, removing the application section will leave only one way to get promoted. Teamspeak.

    Teamspeak is pretty much the best way to prove yourself as a moderator. If you just chat with everyone in a room while staying mature, you could be a mod without having to make an application. This way, new members will not leave the forums from being denied since there is no application section for us to deny. Now there maybe a few members we can bully off the forums like Wazzuppeps who spammed threads as a mistake but other than that, removing the applications will decrease the amount of leaving new members.

    That's all I can say for now. I would like to see what all of your opinions are on this suggestion since it is one of the greatest I've ever thought of. Please leave a response on this so Putty could look upon this thread and possibly agree with it.

    Most of the time, people just make an account on the forums just to apply. If mod apps were disabled, than we wouldn't even have as many players make an account. Than again, they make an app, they get denied, and they never come back on again. There's also the problem of the players who meet all the reqs for mod and are on good terms with most of the MCBrawl community. If mod apps were blocked, than these capable players wouldn't be able to apply for mod than. I'm gonna remain neutral on this.

    P.S. According to Ollie, having ts3 is optional, but Skype is mandatory.

    This explains a lot however we can make some changes to it like block off the staff apps until the new people that want to apply, they must reach 300 post/message count, then the staff apps will be unblocked for them. A sign should say more detailed information about the staff apps.
    There are ups and downs to this like:

    Good things about this:
    This would cause less staff app's being spammed.
    We wouldn't have to use SNN always.
    The people who make it won't leave from our opinions based on the mod app.

    Bad things about this:
    People would spam to get their post count up.
    There are going to be lots of threads about like "how do I get to post in the staff apps?" type of threads.

    The debate on this is going to be quite a challenge to see if this gets accepted or not.

    I agree with firestar that most people just come onto the forums to apply. Maybe someone can code on this website that you have to have over 300 posts to apply. And maybe some other things as well.
    Idk if this is possible though :/
    EDIT: NUU the panda ninja was ninja'd!!!! Hoooowwwww

    I rarely see putty on ts, Chaploo is always in the admin's room so you can't talk to him while Phinary is pretty much inactive in is cave. Putty is always in a private conversation so you can't really talk to him. Besides I only go on ts to talk with people that want to talk. The fact that you just have to talk to putty to become mod is really ridiculous. If the mod apps are disables a lot of people are going to quit and that sucks since the forums are dying, the only way is to set a automatic message when your first applying for mod that says the requirements

    I wouldn't say Putty is inactive at all. And that statement:
    Is not true at all ; I had never spoken to Putty on TS before I was accepted.
    Also, an idea about Staff Applications - Make them private. Disable them to users, and only let Admins review them.

    Correct it is, well then, how about:
    Staff Applications are initially sent to a private area with only admin access.
    Good applications can then be but into a 'Pending' section, where the rest of the community can have there say.
    Whereas, the worse applications can be simply disregarded before the public get the chance to give all the:
    "Short new no" business.

    Maybe they have to have a certain amount of positive ratings. So even if someone spams to get their post count up they still will need the positive ratings. Going on the reason that they will ask why they can't post, then maybe it can say something like this:

    Sorry, you do not have sufficient positive ratings and posts to create an Application

    Try again when you have __ posts and __ positive ratings

    Alas, we have to wait until we get another web dev.

    Positive ratings are not a fair judge of character on the forums. I mean, the user with the most positive ratings is now banned. :stuck_out_tongue:
    I mean, anyone can ask a friend to spam them with likes.

    Yeah, you have a point with that. I really don't have a solution for this. I guess we'll just have to wait.

    I think staff apps should be viewable by admins only. The current system is just stupid.

    I've seen a couple posts on other forums about how people in our community are extremely rude to new players in staff apps.

    Solutions: (My quick pros and cons list)

    • Make all applications private
    Pros:
    No feelings are hurt
    People can't steal applications

    Cons:
    The community cannot judge them
    People won't put in all their effort (because they can't see the "competition")

    • Only allow users to use the poll on applications
    Pros:
    No feelings are hurt from comments
    Community can judge apps - limited

    Cons:
    We cannot see in full detail on what's up

    • Block posting applications until X amount of posts
    Pros:
    Keeps applicants from posting with a low amount of posts
    Makes the forums overall more active

    Cons:
    Forum spam
    They could be upset because they 'worked' for a long time just to get that amount of posts

    • Make a pending area where the community judges them
    Pros:
    Allows for the serious applications to get judged, people hate less on these

    Cons:
    Gets people's hopes up

    ~~~
    I think it's good that people can post on applications because it us to see what the community thinks about the person. However, I am not happy with the feedback that most of our community posts on the applications. Most of the feedback could be posted in one person's comment but everyone continues to hammer it in.
    Overall, I think the best solution is to only allow users to vote on the applicant's poll. This allows community feedback without harsh or discouraging comments. If needed we can allow posting on an application to get a more detailed answer from the community.
    To look at this with a business or marketing standpoint, allowing people to post applications at any time keeps people registering even if they leave (people love big numbers right?) and allowing people the ability to post and grade applications keeps them active on the forums.
    Lucky for you all, I don't like acting like a business because this is a community.
    ~~~

    I honestly would love to chat in Teamspeak with more of you, but on a busy weekday I cannot sometimes.
    The public rooms usually give me a headache within 20 or so minutes.

    Teamspeak is great for actually getting to know some people rather then just text communicating.

    ~~~
    Reminder: We check all reports and do not take bulling/flaming/hate lightly. If any posts are upfront rude they will be warned and fully deleted.
    Just make it so they pass through an "admin filter" to get to the community section. You guys can basically just filter out all the new members apps and let the community have a go at the ones who "pass" the preliminary test.
    This would be very effective. The Admins will decide on whether or not the Application stands a chance (Members who apply with little posts or the Application is not very impressive will not make it through), and if it does, it will be posted for the public to view. This would prevent the community from posting harsh comments on the bad Applications, and we can state our opinion on the ones that are sent through. Excellent idea, Grey.
    The only thing I worry about with the admin filter is that we don't have a lot of active admins that browse the forums. We have putty, and then yinscape and phinary sometimes. The other ones don't come on the forums unless there's a purpose for it. There's a lot of apps that are made so i'm not sure if it will be too overwhelming for putty to also have this job on his shoulders along with the other jobs he has.
    @Mokolee did you ever thought about it that putty and chaploo live in america, which means that it is very hard to talk with them if you live in europe, asia or something.
    And there are also many europeans on european times on the servers, so we also need mods who can play a this time.
    So totally removing apps is definitely not a solution.
    I think thats the best solution, but if members cant comment anymore, an admin should make a message with reasons when he denys it, cause if they never get feedback, they can never improve.
