Good idea for: Knife

Because cod is built of other mechanics than mc. In cod you can only knife at a very close range. (Maybe half the range of a normal sword) And if u miss a knife in cod the animation has to finish so you can only knife once every two seconds. (correct me if im wrong.) In mc u can swing ur knife as fast as you can.

 

Yep that's about it, anyway there's not a lot of people using the knife to kill so it doesn't really matter

 

Exactly the problem.

However, there is a simple way to fix this. First of all, when someone hits a player with a knife, check if they are within two blocks away. If they aren't, cancel the hit, but do the next step anyways.

Now, make the player "lunge" in the direction he's pointing. He will be moved two blocks forward, and launched 1 block in the air.

 

In addition to this, once a knife detects that you' eh it an enemy, make it do nothing for about a second. This means that if you hit someone during this "cool down" time, it will do no damage. And yes, it's possible. But god, this would cause so much knifing rage. And so many knife trolls. (hi)

 

The only problem I see so far is that it may be used to glitch out of map.

 

My knife has never taken more than three hits to kill someone. Never before has it taken six...

This could be a good solution. Although, the first one may cause confusion and questions like "Why doesn't my sword do damage?" This could easily be explained, though.
