This idea, in my opinion, will likely receive mixed opinions. NO matter what, people may not want players to pick up their weapons. Please read the whole post before making a comment on your opinions.
I am fully aware that this has been suggested before, and that it has been quickly denied. However, I have some major changes to add to the idea, to make it more balanced.
Anyways, in Call of Duty, you can pick up weapons from dead players. Because MC-War is becoming more and more realistic to COD, I thought that it might be a good idea to suggest this idea again. The idea threads that I found were in the Archive section, and were quite... undetailed... So I'm going to add more detail.
I have two ideas for this, if it was to be implemented. But first, how it would work.
When holding your primary, pressing your drop key ('Q' by default) and your sneak key (Left Shift by default) would cause you to pick up a dropped weapon nearby. Players drop weapons when they die. To prevent exploits, purposefully suiciding will not drop a weapon. (block glitching, /suicide, etc.). There is a delay before actually picking up the weapon and being able to use it (like 1 second), to keep it decently balanced.
When you pick up a weapon, you will drop yours on the ground, and you will receive the weapon you picked up, complete with the ammo that the person had when he/she died. This can be used well, as you can pick up a weapon when you run out of ammo with your primary, and use that weapon instead. To prevent lag, weapons will despawn after 30 seconds. If you die, you will drop that weapon and respawn with your normal loadout.
Secondaries and donor guns cannot be picked up no matter what. When you are near a weapon to pick up, you will see holographic text done via a plugin, hovering over the gun. Here is BBSlayer5150's take on the idea.
Now, for my two ideas that make it different from the previous suggested ideas.
    Version 1:
You can only pick up weapons that are the same as your weapon. For instance, if you started with an M4A1, you would be able to pick up all assault rifles. This means the M16, the M4, the AK, the Famas, the Lamentation, and the Skullcrusher. (this can be changed to firing modes as well, like three round burst or fully automatic weapons). If it was to be the suggestion in the parentheses, then here's a list of weapons that would link together.
    M16, Famas, Skullcrusher
    M4, AK-47, Lamentation
    L118a, Barrett, Isolator
    Dragunov, MSR, Dissassembler
    M1014, AA-12, Typhoid
    SPAS-12, Model, SPAS-24
    Pros:
    • You can switch the type of gun you are using quickly. You can switch from the slow Dissassembler to the faster MSR.
    • If you're out of ammo, you can switch to a weapon that has ammo, that you prefer using.
    Cons:
    • More powerful weapons could end up in the hands of lower-leveled players, like a Model in the hands of a level 3.
    • It is quite limited, and you can't change types of guns, like auto to sniper.
    Version 2:
You can only pick up weapons of your tier. If you have a M4A1, you can only pick up the Dragunov and SPAS-12. Remember, this doesn't affect sidearms.
A variation of this idea is to only allow weapons changes for two tiers of weapons, like so:
Tier 1-2 can pick up each others' weapons
Tier 3-4 can pick up each others' weapons
Tier 5-6 can pick up each others' weapons
    Pros:
    • You can easily switch the type of weapon, like assault to a sniper.
    • It is less limited in my opinion (second idea)
    Cons:
    • OP weapons may still end up in the hands of lower-leveled players (idea variation)
    • Levels are annoying. If you had a Model, but no Famas or MSR, how would that work? What weapons would you get?
    Version 3:
Players can pick up any gun they own. This is a better idea, in my opinion, as it allows for more solutions.
If you try to pick up a gun that you don't own, it will give you a message saying you cannot pick it up, since you don't own it. Credit to @whitemagnum for this idea.
    Pros:
    • Lots of weapons that you can choose from, depending on your level
    • Easy to adapt to situations
    • Very balanced
    Cons:
    • You may not own all guns below your tier, so yeah

Those are the three most balanced ideas I can think of at the moment. They are a little derpy, but in my opinion are more balanced than the previously suggested ideas.
Remember, you cannot pick up donor weapons or secondaries, no matter what.
Please comment below and vote on the poll about what you think of this idea! With tweaks, the idea of picking up weapons from fallen players would be a great addition to MC-War.

I really like this idea, the fact that you can't pick up donor items and secondary's. And also that if say I run out of ammo for my leman, I see a person die right next to me with like say a skull crusher, this would be really great for those who ran out of ammo.
    I personally like this idea.

The idea is very much improved from all previous instances I've seen. However, I would have to go with version 2. I think it would be unfair if lv 1 players could pick up an iso simply because they are using a sniper rifle. It would be sort of like a class/weapon switching mechanic, which would be really cool.

So only low leveled players can pick up a weapon that they already have. That works fine with me but make it so that donor weapons can't be picked up. Can you imagine ray guns being taken from the same idiot dying over and over again?

This is extremely overpowered just from the idea, not even to read the information on it. Just from the title, it seems very overpowered. Since the guns are not well balanced as the call of duty games, it seems very easy for someone to get a good gun from someone else.

    THEN I read your explanation
So what I am interpreting is a type of scavenger/gun picker I do not know. Version 1 as you said would be good for the lower level players to get a higher level gun.
The second version is a bit better, but still the same thing where a lower level player can get a better gun.
It cannot be like a scavenger where you pick up only a gun the same as you, because it destroys the fact of donating for scavenger.

Overall, good idea, but it is really hard to come up with a well balanced idea for picking up another player's gun without the thing becoming too good, or too bad in the sense where a donater perk is destroyed.

+0 The pros are good, but the con just brings the whole ship down. If one leg of a chair breaks, the whole thing goes down. (terrible analogy but thats what came to mind.)

Very improved from the previous suggestions, but there's some things I still want to point out:

    • First, if the drop button is Q, what button do you use to reload?
    • Second, the drop feature should be toggleable. Some people might not want to acidentally drop their gun in the middle of a fight.
    • Third, picking up another weapon should only give you 1/2 of the ammo in the gun when a gun is on the ground. Just imagine if someone uses Scavenger, he drops his weapon and he racks up like 500 automatic ammo. That'd be pretty op to have if you don't have Scavenger.

the reload default button is q.
and you shouldnt be able to drop your weapon, since in most first person shooter games you cannot. You can just swap it on the ground for a different gun.
And the last thing you said, the ideas already have pros and cons. That is another pointer that makes it harder to get a good fair idea. Its going to take a lot of creativity and thinking to get a good variation of this.

Read the whole thread. I specifically said that.
    1. It's sneak and the drop key at the same time. And it only works if you're near a dropped gun.
    2. You can't drop a gun, you can only exchange it for a different weapon. You must also hold down sneak + your drop key for like 2/3 seconds.
    3. The normal rules as said in the main post will apply for fallen players if their gun has only a bit more ammo than the maximum. This is to work for the 5 killstreak. If the gun has an overwhelming amount of ammo, it will have 3/4s of its full ammo.
Mokolee has given me an idea, I'll be adding a third variation.

Oh now I remember where you are coming from with the reload key working with the swap key. On the XBOX version of Call of Duty, to switch your gun you used the X button. The X button reloads the weapon as well. But we are talking about Minecraft...

Version 3 is probably the most ideal version just because of the fact that they can only pick up guns they own - which makes it super balanced and makes it so noobs can't just pickup rayguns, isos, etc.

One question though, what about ammo? How will ammo play a role in this?

If a player doesn't have scav when they die, the player who picks up the weapon will receive the ammo that the former had when they died. With scav, if there's too much ammo, they will receive 3/4s of the weapon's normal total ammo.

I think they should just receive only a percentage of the amount of ammo cause all someone has to do is pick up an ISO and the insane amount ammo it comes with, then pick up something like an MSR and just abuse the amounts of ammo with it.

This idea is cool and realistic. But the version one is very overpowered-imagine a level 1 having the skullcrusher.
Version 2 is a bit better, but still imagine a level 1 using m16 having the skullcrusher.
This would make the game more similar to COD.
Overall I think version 3 is the best.

So my vote goes for Version 3, as it seems the most balanced, and it would make the game more fun if you don't own scavanger. It would be great if you forgot to change weapons bevore the game starts.
Question: If you own scav and you pick up a gun, you would still get more ammo from scavenger, wouldn't you?
I really hope to see this implemented,Great work Brawler!

Last time I saw this idea, I thought NO. This time, effort has been put into it. At least it will not be to OP. Maybe make it that non-prestige can only pick up non-prestige guns... Apart from that, I like! version 3.

Another Idea: If you have a m16 for ex, and you run over a dropped m16 from a dead player, you would recieve(another for ex) 1/2 of the ammo he had left
I think this would make another good addition to the game
