Flag Carrier Notifier

    In CoD (as I always start), there is a floating sign above the flags, wherever they are on the map. These flags help guide you where to go to return, capture, or intercept the flag. This would be a great idea in MCWar. Let me explain...

    So, let's say that you're in a game of CTF (CoD's version), and the flags are at their base. On your screen, there'd be a floating green sign over your flag, stating "DEFEND", and a red sign on your screen over the enemy's, stating "GRAB". These signs also appear on your mini-map.

    I take your flag. Now, there is a red sign floating over my head on your screen, stating "KILL". This sign updates about every 4 seconds. So, it's not a constant movement. You have to think like the enemy to intercept the flag, since it has to update. This also applies to the mini-map.

    You kill me. Now, there is a gray sign over the dropped flag which says "RETURN". You walk over the flag, and it teleports back to base. This also applies to the mini-map.

    Your teammate then grabs my flag. From the second he grabbed the flag, he has a green sign floating over him, stating "ESCORT". This sign follows him constantly, so you know exactly where he is to escort him. This also applies to the mini-map.

    Your teammate is killed. But, being the faithful escort, you kill the killer. Over the flag now is a sign stating "PICK UP". You pick up the flag and capture it.

    Okay... What do you suggest, man?
    "Signs"
    The system is entirely different in MCWar. This is what I have in mind for a "sign", since it's practically impossible to code an actually sign that is seeable through blocks.

    Have it so that instead of having the trail of wool follow the person, have the beacon thingy coming out on top of his head. I found out that the beacon goes through blocks!

    Because it'd be hard to tell which team the guy's on if both teams took the flag, there is another way. But, a harder one at the same time. So, instead of having a beacon shooting out of the top of the guy's head, have it so that a beam of lava or water follows him around. Lava should follow the red flag, and water follow the blue; it should not depend on team color. Also, the beam should be seeable through ceilings.

    Compass
    The above is very hard to code, so I suggest another option that should be included even if the above is coded. On the MCCTF server, a compass points to the flag, wherever it is. That is something that has been coded before, and it'd be a good placeholder until a mini-map can be coded. By right-clicking the compass, it'd point to either your or the opposing team's flags. If Player A had the flag, the compass would point to him. If possible, and probably not, make it so that the compass has to update when pointing to the enemy's flag, like it does in CoD.


    Change to the current system...
    To be honest, I don't think that the flag should auto-return when you kill a guy. Currently, this does make sense, because if the flag was dropped at the guy's base, they could spawn camp and get a ton of kills, only to cap at the end. But, if a new spawn system is implemented, I'd like to see a CTF system where a dropped flag has to be retrieved and brought back to the base (either by teleportation or by actually manually returning it). Or, if it's your flag, you can pick it up and continue from where it was dropped, not from the enemy's base.

    I do like the idea of names above but it seems that could be hard to code several douzens of maps to do this.

    Awesome idea. Your right about the flag teleporting back. I almost never see a flag that teleports back to a base in any CTF game I've played

    I have played a ctf server and what they do is put a 10 second timer on the flag and post the co ordinates in the chat. If the timer times out the flag resets.

    Nice Idea Brian. I also would think it would be cool for their to be something in the sidebar saying how close you are too each flag and also similar to usernames, nametags above the flag with actions if you know what I mean.
