    So....I use a Minecraft 1.6.4 profile for most of my singleplayer stuff. I have a number of mods installed, including Optifine (which is part of my problem). Anyway, I needed the Colored Lights mod, which would help create the ideal atmosphere for a certain build.
    (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1993130-172betawipcolored-light-progress-and-discussion/)
    But unfortunately, the two mods were unable to work together, and my game crashed.
    Now, optifine is a very useful tool for me, as it not only improves my frame rate, but also gives me access to metadata and ctm textures, as well as a very nice skybox, and some form of advanced shading and lighting (texture/resource pack specific). I'm loath to part with it for these reasons, but I also feel like this colored lights mod is essential to the build I wish to construct.
    So, I have two choices: trash optifine, or refuse the Colored Light mod.
    I'm not so concerned about frame rate drops if I trash optifine, rather, what I really am reluctant to part with is the ctm, shading and skybox stuff, which really does add quite a nice feel to the game.
    To this end, I tried to get around it by installing Mcpatcher (with forge). This would keep the ctm and metadata textures, but I would loose the frame rate boosts that optifine provides. However, when I loaded the profile created by the Mcpatcher launcher up, it immediatly crashed, proclaiming that Minecraft had run out of memory. I've tried adjusting the available memory, tried re-downloading the launcher, tried creating Mcpatcher-forge profile after profile, with no result, and honestly, I'm getting a bit fed up.

    So is there any way to keep these two mods? Any way for me to get Mcpatcher-Forge to work? Do I really have to choose between one mod or the other?
    Halp pls.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ;-;

    (If I failed to explain anything, please just let me know)

    Maybe if you could find a way to get more memory on your computer, your frame rate would slightly increase I think. I don't know.

    McPatcher won't help you here, it's only for HD textures and requires more memory.
    There are more mods that increase FPS, look some up.
    If OptiFine is your only options for FPS increase, use it and not rainbow lights if you get 15< FPS without it.

    Side note: MCPatcher has never been compatible with Forge, as far as I know.

    Without using Optifine, you can use CTM as a separate mod. Minecraft also natively supports a number of Optifine features now, such as HD textures and animations. As for shaders, there's always the Shaders mod, although I'm not entirely sure that's compatible with ColoredLights. SkyBoxes are more difficult, but you might be able to use them by extracting the particular Optifine classes to support them (although this is quite difficult, and may require a custom mod for compatibility). If you need more FPS, you can try FPSPlus, which optimizes various math functions used in minecraft, along with Stackie which reduces lag caused by items.

    I didn't just drop the Mcpatcher.jar into my mods folder, if that's what you're thinking. x-x
    Anyway, thanks for the advice; I'll be sure to check those out. :] (TBH, I completely forgot about the ctm mod)

    I meant, using MCPatcher to install Forge has never worked very well.
