So I wanted to edit some of the colors on the L118a in a custom Mc-War resource pack through Paint.net, but after editing the texture and putting it back into the zip folder, I got a weird checkerboard square that replaced the L118a texture. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you can send me a download link for the picture you made I can fix it for you. I can't know the specific problem without actually messing with it. Edit: You could also just upload your pic too. :c

Here's an attachment to the image. Don't know how to upload a pic in order to make it a download.

P.S. Yes, I know it doesn't look like it's edited much, but I took the texture from Daniel's resource pack, in which the laser sight was dark red, not blue.

I found the issue. Your images dimensions were off. They must be a multiple of 16 in order for minecraft to recognize it. I fixed the dimensions, and it will now show up. Just download this and it should work. It is now 128 by 128.

It doesn't have to be a multiple of 16.

Is that so? When I stray from that format, it either doesn't recognize it, or it ends up looking really weird. For instance, I did that with tall grass once (I had it 20 by 23 or something) and it made the pixels really small because it bumped it up to 32 by 32 or something like that.

You can make the textures 8x8, 4x4, and 2x2 and you can make weird resolutions with animation.

Oh, I see. I have never tried that before. I guess it has to double every time you take it a step up?

    Yes and no.
If you're using the default scale of textures, then yes.
That is the most common and probably the best.
But, you can also do resolutions like 192x192, as long as they are multiples of 16 like you said, although thy don't HAVE to be.
