We remember it to honor those who died, to honor those who were scrambling through the debris to save citizens, and to honor all of those who were first responders. We remember terrible things to remind us to not let them to happen again. We had the Holocaust. Do you suggest we move on and forget that? We must remember this event to prevent it from ever happening in the future. Imagine if our children were never taught about 9/11. Another terrorist attack would happen and no one would think anything of it except a plane flew into a building on accident. Then the next would hit, and so on, causing chaos again. My teacher told us about her experiences durring 9/11 today. She said she was teaching highschool at the time, and never though about a terrorist attack. Being afraid of heights, she said she made a joke saying "that's what they get for building so high. Someone flew into it while not paying attention." Everyone was oblivious about it. Later, the next plane hit and everyone went into a state of confusion. Some problem said it was a freak accident. Others said it was a war attack. None of them knew about anything of this manner. Now that we know about this, we take pro cautions to not let it occur again.

However, we still have this day remembered to honor those all who have died, which is why all cities in the United States took part in a moment of silence today.

I doubt they knew that they were going to be attacked, but I'm sure the president was in a safe room when that second one hit.

You'll never truly understand how extreme this was then. Nothing like this had ever happened before, and not innocent people were being killed. Every citizen had questions that couldn't be answered. New York had hundreds of millions of calls all ringing in at the same time of people checking on others. The entire country was just in a state of paranoia and chaos. It's good you've learned about it though.

If a plane were to be heading towards the White House, they would be able to evacuate twice before you could even say 'plane'.

They would know well in advance.

9:43 White House evacuated because of credible threat of terrorist attack. Security officers patrol the precinct.
58 minutes after the first tower was hit, 40 minutes after the second tower was hit. However, the President was in Florida at the time.

I can remember when it happened. I was at my grandparents house, and it came up on TV and my whole family being sad and scared. I was very confused because I was very young. But I later understood how horrible and tragic it was.

Agree with this, but the tragedies of the past must be remembered, so that they never happen.
May all the victims of 9/11 rest in peace. Let us hope a tragedy like this will never happen again.

too tired, might do it tomorrow, but then it kind of defeats the purpose of writing it

I'm not the only one? lol

All things aside, this was a terrible event that should not be forgotten. Like pearl harbor, 9/11 is a "date that will live in infamy"-FDR. Rest in peace the 2753 people that perished in this attack. It might have been more if UA 93 wasn't taken over by the passengers and did hit the capitol or the WH.

not really a history lesson but still good enough ish

I was one at the time, I am Australian so I didn't know much about it. I heard it was a sad day because two hijacked planes crashed into the twin towers taking over a thousand lives (I think). The plan was set by Osama bin Laden.
Australians didn't have a such traumatising event but we did have ANZAC day representing those who died in the First World War.
Once life is destroyed, there is no means of repair it's forever lost.
The most destructive thing that I could remember was the suicide bomber in Melbourne but no one was injured but comparing that with not one but two planes crashing into a very tall building, considering the planes had a lot of gasoline exploded the towers. Unfortunately comparing the events, this shall traumatise people for the rest of their lives.

13 years, that is not enough time to cope with the 2,000+ people that died.
