Blocking words is getting annoying.

There are little kids on these servers, the staff are just trying to promote a nice swear-free environment.

 

You have to remember that there are many different types of people on our servers. You have the younger people (6-11) and the older people (12-19). The staff are trying to create a nice environment for everyone.

 

I get that the chat filter has some mess-ups. And I definitely get annoyed with it too, not for using bad language, but for typing sentences and it reads it as something else.

But to be honest, it definitely has helped the servers at least a little bit. It is much more calm not having every fight end with "noob", etc.

 

I agree. I tried to type "Who remembers the map stalingrad" It turns into "*** **members the map stalingrad"

 

Now i just see people saying N()()B.

 

Yea, can't hurt anyone's feelings. The real world is a dangerous place and we should keep little kids away from it until the last second. They should be wrapped up in bubble wrap with a helmet and knee/elbow pads on at all times.

Also, while we're at it, we should block every negative word in the English dictionary --

loser
stupid
dumb
butthead
fatty
lame
idiot
...

Even "Damn" is blocked.

On a serious note however, there is one and one reason only why people play these servers. Fun. Yes, we shouldn't block every negative word but I'm sure lots of parents would be very mad if they found their kids learnt swear words from a computer game and it's not very fun for the kids to be called ***s or something worse, especially if they're only 8 or 9 years old. Kids can learn resilience elsewhere, in the real world. Here they just want to have fun.

Although I gotta say, I don't think damn should be blocked.

 

Nearly all of these kids already know about these words. In fact, it's mostly kids < 12 that are saying them, and they learn them from many other sources (school being a big one), not just the internet.

I'll also remind you that we have /block. It totally fixes this.

And I think you might have misunderstood me a little. I don't believe everything should just be uncensored, I just think it's beyond ridiculous that non-cuss/non-offensive words (like noob) are being censored.

 

The filter wonks up at times. That is the only time I see anything wrong with it. A large amount of people that play Minecraft are usually rather young. Yes, it doesn't bother others, but it is better for an overall thought. Once all the word mess ups and fixed up, nothing about it would bother me at all.
Noob is a word well known and used at least once in our playing times. It is just now, it is so common and used as an insult and provokes many arguments now. Blocking it should not do any sort of damage.

 

I agree with you on the part that the chat filter is bugged.
What I don't agree with is your opinion on people swearing. Sure there are teenagers here that swear daily, but come on. Minecraft was always meant to be a kids game, so there are obviously going to be kids playing it. And I'm not sure those kids need to be hearing inappropriate language that goes on in the chat, and sometimes, people can get pretty creative with their words.

 

If there was a chat filter with "levels" that would be good. AFAIK there may be one currently being worked on.

 

Yeah but like once I typed in: " Damn there's a lot of your clan members on " and it censored damn... Damn is not commonly used as a insult on the servers so I don't know why it is censored.

New idea:
Disable the chat. We will never have a 100% flawless chat, so let's just remove it.
