How do you feel about neutral ratings being removed?

Discussion in 'Off Topic' started by BrawlerAce, Oct 28, 2014.

?

Should neutral ratings have been removed?

  1. Yes, they were causing a negative influence like negative ratings were.

  2. No, their removal causes even more restriction and strict rules.

To counteract the "they were easily abused/spammed" argument, any rating can be abused. Who is to say I can not agree to every comment I see, even if the comment does not make any sense at all? Would positive ratings be removed as well because people were spamming them for no reason? Seems like a weak argument if you ask me.
Plus, it will be pretty annoying when a thread is locked and I can not even say why I disagree with a comment for all to see...
I can see threads going pretty off topic as well. People would argue over who is actually right, which will lead to useless comments that could possibly not help the thread at all.
Finally, I do not want to have to reply to someone and say "I disagree with this comment because..." A simple rating that takes 1 second to click is extremely helpful.

However its not helpful to the person who made that post. If they don't know why you disagree its not helpful to them at all.

Same goes for the agree rating in a way I guess, what good is an agree rating if you wrote something that can not be agreeable? (weak statement)
An even better example, what if I made a post of say 10 opinions, and you just agree the post? What is someone agreeing with? Is someone agreeing with all of the opinions or some of them, and if so which ones? It's not very beneficial to me if I do not know what you are agreeing with (double negative :/).

So, if I may, I am going to quote your post, but change a word around.
Again, it might not be helpful to me if I do not know what you are agreeing with. Some details would be nice as to why someone were to agree with my post.

What if agree ratings were removed? Would be mad if you had to quote the person and explain why you agree with them, even if it is a simple agreeable statement where, oh I don't know, a rating would be helpful?

Then they can ask on the person's profile.

So why not remove agree rating aswell? Then you have to tell the person why you agree. Same with all the other ratings. So why not remove all the ratings? I have seen positive ratings being spammed aswell. It is the same for all the ratings if you are going to renove it because it was abused.

Yes, agree ratings could be removed if everyone misused them like the disagree rating. It's not a weak argument because people don't spam them. The only instance I can recall of positive ratings being abused was over half a year ago when one person spammed them to himself with an alt. If positive ratings ever become a problem, then action will be taken to resolve the problem.
If a thread is locked, usually, nothing else needs to be said. A disagree is altogether unnecessary at that point. But, if you really feel the need to express your opinion publicly after a lock, you can always pm a staff for an unlock.
Most threads are meant for discussion. A little more intelligent discussion and a little less rating spam would be a welcome change. However, since people cannot seem to express their opinion without flaming/ranting, this could lead to problems. This being said, comments are more easily dealt with than ratings. There is a report button on comments for a reason.
Did you see me say that once while disagreeing with you? :V In my opinion, it's better to comment than to simply rate when using agree and disagree ratings. It's somewhat lazy to simply rate agree or disagree without stating your reasoning. I know that we all do it, but that doesn't make it right.
Exactly why I think rating agree or disagree without posting is lazy. :V At least comment saying what you agree with and why.
Nope, wouldn't be mad. It might make a welcome change actually, but since they are positive ratings, and people don't want to lose positive ratings, they probably wouldn't think like you or me BB.

beyond people bandwagon downvoting a post or posting a dissenting opinion, the forums just become a huge tub of circlejerking. sometimes you see a post that you just want to dislike, and we all know that any posts that are deemed "disrespectful" can be deleted for no other reason that someone's sore feelings.

it just turns the forums into a sickly sweet pit of perpetual hugging that's honestly a load of crap. not everyone will like your opinion, and if you can't take that then get the hell of the internet.
