can't combine two items with anvil

Ok, thank you to @phantamanta44 for explaining this to me. The server is displaying the 1.8 values to fix/combine the items. Unfortunately the server is still in 1.7 enchanting and fixing. So though 1.8 may display 6 lvls you will probably need the 20+ lvls that 1.7 requires.

 

The amount of levels you need to anvil together items is calculated and displayed on the client. Since 1.8, the formula has been changed, meaning the amount of levels is wrong. When the client tries to send the server a packet telling it to anvil together the items, the server rejects the packet as invalid, and refuses to anvil the items together. Since the XP bar is updated on the client by the attempt at anviling your items, it will also display an incorrect number until you get another XP-update packet from the server by picking up an orb, or something similar.

Even if you have the 20+ levels that are necessary, it just eats the 4 or so levels and doesn't do the repair either.

 

I combined 2 sharp 1 swords and it said for but i had 20 lvls and it took them all. After that, i couldnt combine anything else. Im trying to combine a S2 f1 knock1 unbreak2 with a s2 but even with 25 lvls, they wont combine. Please just change it back to 1.7.10

I said continue the discussion here, not that this thread solves everything.
Its a unfixed bug with 1.7.X Servers and 1.8 Clients so far.

 

Just get a hell of a lot of levels and you should be able to anvil things.

 

I'm gonna make this as simple as I can for everyone who still doesn't understand. All of the above is kinda confusing.

So basically the example will be me putting a sharp V book on a Dia sword.

1.7.x = 28levels
1.8.x=14levels

The game Survival PvP is still running on 1.7.x but to log on we have to use 1.8.x so when you put the sword in the anvil it would say 14levels when actually it costs 28.

We don't need to swap back, the server is on 1.7. But it is also compatible to 1.8.
If you want to make sure that enchanting and repairing works fine, use 1.7.x when playing on PvP Survival.
