Buying a rank is always a good place to start if you're looking to play competitively. You can do this by clicking the Shop tag on the forums or doing /buy in-game and clicking the link.

However, many people play without ranks and it can still be an interesting and enjoyable game. I suggest you just learn from practice and check out some of the guides as mentioned above by @Mrcowlick.

I suggest you look at both for tips.

 

So on servers 1-5 is the "New map" and 6-10 are the old ones. Assuming you know the ips to the servers I'll cut to how to get good loot and stay alive. So to get good loot you will basically want to travel north and loot towns and buildings to get guns, armor, and ammo. To stay alive you want to switch off between your guns. So shoot one, go to another, and shoot that one. That's it. Good luck!

 

Start on servers 1-5. If you are playing with a team it's good to have donator rankk

 

I wouldn't recommend throwing money at something to don't know if you will even like.

 

Tier 4 weapons are the best.
Get full iron in the lower zones, then head for higher.
Snipers spawn 1 zone above the previous one.
Go North.

 

If you start for the first time try to find a warz server with not many players on it so you can loot good and understand the game better. And explore the map

 

Or just sit in a building 24/7 like this guy
