    I am confused as heck. I restart my computer (Mac OS X 10.6.8) and tried to boot up Minecraft. As my computer is ~9 years old, I cannot start Minecraft right at the start, so I wait, than start Minecraft. When Minecraft is started, I get to the launcher. The launcher, instead of the "Play" button, has grey "Loading..." text. It also says that the version is still loading. I just sat there and waited for an hour, and nothing happened. So, I try and update my Java, and it still did not fix myself. Also, I have the Minecraft application on my desktop, and it is just a question mark. Please help me.

    Backup screenshots
    Delete minecraft folder
    Delete minecraft application
    Clean reinstall

    To back up a server list, should I just back up the servers.dat file?

    rm -f ~/Library/minecraft/launcher.*
    Then rerun the launcher jar.

    OS X 10.6.8? That's probably the issue. I'm on 10.9.5, which is still a whole OS behind.

    I'd recommend deleting everything and reinstalling Minecraft. If you have any maps you want to keep, or you like your options, you can always remove those files and put them back after you reinstall.
    To find the minecraft folder:

    1. Click on the "Go" drop down menu on the Apple bar at the top of the screen
    2. Hold Option/Alt or whatever it is on your keyboard
    3. Click Library
    4. Open the Application Support folder
    5. Scroll down until you find Minecraft
    6. Do what you want with it :V

    I would also recommend updating your operating system, but seeing as your computer is 9 years old, I'm not sure if that would actually help. Some of the older computers are a bit slow with the newest operating system.

    He's running *nix anyways.
    May as well switch to Linux :v

    I thing Debian Squeeze with XFCE might work on that ancient device of yours.

    Includes Linux, FreeBSD, OS X, etc.

    Because OS X != Unix.
    *nix means it's either a derivarive of, or at least partly based on Unix.
