Below_Z3ro (aka Ying1161)'s McBrawl Moderator Application:
Note – This is the first moderator application that I have posted on McBrawl, so I understand that the chances of my acceptance are low. However, I would appreciate it if you would take the time to read through my application and give feedback so that I may improve any future applications. Thank you.

Are you active and helpful on our servers, forums, and Teamspeak? -

*Activity - I have been going on the servers for 2 years now, and joined the forums about 5 months ago. Since I joined, I have been on both for hours every day, so I think that in these two fields I am highly active. However, my TS3 activity is not the best. I only downloaded it about a month ago, and didn’t go on as much as I probably should. Every time I went on, it was for a long period of time, but I only went on about 1-2 days a week. However, my activity increased about a week ago. I now go on for about 1-2 hours a day, but I know that this will still affect my application because my activity should have started months ago. I do know that if my moderator application is accepted, my TS3 activity will not only continue, it will become much better.

*Helpfulness – I have always tried my best to be helpful on the forums. Whenever someone asks a question, I try to answer it. I look at the intros section constantly because I know that a lot of people actually post questions there. Similarly, I look at the discussion sections of many forums for the questions that are posed there. In game I also try to answer questions. My helpfulness in game is not as great as my helpfulness on the forums because the chat moves faster, and sometimes it’s hard to notice questions before they’re gone. However, when I do notice a question I always try to answer it. My helpfulness on TS3 is probably the worst of all, and I don’t think that this is because of my low activity. The reason for this is that whenever people have a question, they don’t usually ask me but rather a staff member. It’s very hard to become helpful on TS3 unless you are actually a part of the staff team. I believe that if my moderator application is accepted, I can become very helpful on TS3.

Approximately, how many rule breaker reports have you submitted? –I have submitted 7-8 rule breaker reports, and I believe 4-5 of them were actually banned. The number is a little bit lower than I would have liked, but I still think that it is high enough for me to become a moderator. The reason for this is because I only started reporting people about a month ago. I didn’t report people before this because when I recorded I got around 7 fps. However, recently I have tweaked my computer so that I can get 20 fps while I record. This is still fairly low, but it is playable enough that I can still function regularly while recording. If I am accepted as a moderator, I don’t think that this will be an issue because I will record even if it does bother me a little.

How old are you? – I am currently 14 years of age. This may not be as high as some of you would like, but I believe that I can still become the same moderator that I would be if I were a little older. I believe that I can be just as helpful or polite as a staff member who is a few years older than me. I like to think of myself as a mature person, so I can act as if I were 16.

What time zone are you in? – I am currently on Central Standard Time (CST).

What is your experience and knowledge of Minecraft? –I bought the computer version of Minecraft on June 3, 2012. I had played it at my friend’s house and instantly fell in love with the game. My parents offered to pay for it if I waited a week, but I simply couldn’t. I bought it right away. All though the Minecraft I witnessed at my friend’s house was single-player, I didn’t stay there for long. I quickly discovered multiplayer and like it even more than what I had been playing. I played mostly faction servers until I completely understood the game. All the crafting recipes, all the things you can do, everything. Eventually I got bored, until about 1.5 years ago I discovered a different kind of multiplayer server. One with a special guns plugin :stuck_out_tongue: I switched through a bunch of servers until about 6 months ago I really stuck to WarZ. I have played it every day since and really love the game. I would like to say I know very much about it. The items you can find, the places you can go, and the different ways you can play it. This is why I would like to become a moderator for the server. So that I can really discover what I can do on this server.

What is your experience with moderating servers? – I have been a co-owner of one server before. The server never became fairly big, so I didn’t get very many opportunities to correct players who were breaking rules. However, it was definitely beneficial to me as a moderator because it allowed me to learn most of the commands involved with being a staff member, even if there weren’t very many players. I sadly do not have proof because at the time I never thought I would need proof of the server, and the server went down a few months ago.

What will you provide to the community if you are provided moderator status? – I will try my very best to become a kind moderator for the community. I will not be the kind of moderator who uses force to keep people in line. I will try my best to reason with people and explain why what they are doing is wrong, and then get them to stop. I will use force if needed, but before doing so I would like to make people understand how they are being unfair to others.

Have you ever used a hacked client before? – I have never used a hacked client before, nor do I plan to do so in the future. I have always been taught that the golden rule (however cheesy it may be) is to always treat others how you would like to be treated. I know that when you are given a disadvantage because someone else is using a hacked client that it ruins the game. I don’t ever want to be the source of that feeling to anyone else.

Have you ever been banned on a Minecraft server? If so, why? – I have never been banned on a Minecraft server. As I said before, I believe in treating others with respect so that you may be treated the same way. For that reason, I have never said anything in a chat or performed any actions that would result in a ban. I believe that games are meant to be played for fun, and games cannot be fun if their rules are broken. I try my best never to break any important rules so that all of the members of the game can continue to have fun.

How active do you consider yourself in-game? – I spend a large portion of my free time playing on the WarZ servers. I consider it to be a very fun game, probably one of the best that I have ever played. I spend 1-2 hours on the server every weekday, and 2-3 hours during the weekend. I enjoy every second that I spend online, so I have no problem dedicating my free time to these servers. If I was accepted as a moderator, I would probably spend more time in-game than I already do.

How active do you consider yourself on TS3? – This is the area that I think will affect my application the most. Unfortunately, I do not go on TS3 as much as I probably should. I do go on, just not very frequently. Over the last week my activity has been up, but before that it was very low. However, during the last week I have been going on TS3 every day for about 1-2 hours, and I will make sure that my activity stays that way. If I am accepted as moderator, that activity will go up even more.

How active do you consider yourself on the forums? – I go on the forums probably 3-4 times a day for about 15 minutes at a time, for a total of about an hour a day. Sometimes I’ll propose a discussion for the rest of the community to give their input on, and sometimes I’ll just look at other people’s threads and comment. I currently have 524 messages, 248 of which received positive ratings. I’m happy to say that besides like and agree, which are the two most common ratings, the rating with the most votes was friendly. I like to consider myself a friendly person on the forums, so I think this describes me well :grinning:

What do you consider your greatest strength? – My greatest strength is the joy I take from helping people. If I was accepted as a moderator, I would not help people simply because it was my job, I would help people because I enjoy doing so. This is why I already try to answer questions that people pose in-game, even without the moderator status. The reason I am applying for mod is so that I can become someone whose role in the community is helping people, and so that I can do what I already love to do.

What do you consider your greatest weakness? – My greatest weakness is that I get a little shy while talking to people online. The reason that my TS3 activity is fairly weak is because I don’t really enjoy talking online with people I haven’t actually met. Now, I’m not saying that I don’t talk at all. I go on TS3, I just don’t particularly enjoy it. If I could help people without going on TS3, I would. But that simply can’t happen, which is why I have made the sacrifice and go on TS3 for regular amounts of time daily.

How would you handle someone making a minor transgression for the first time? The first time someone did something wrong, such as disrespecting me in chat, I would message them and tell them why they shouldn’t do that and ask them to stop. I believe that before becoming firm with someone, you owe it to them to at least explain that they are doing something wrong so that they know and get the chance to stop without the matter becoming worse.

How would you handle the same person doing it again a second time? – If they ignore my first message, then I would become a little more firm and tell them that they need to stop, and that this is their last warning. If someone does something once, it might be because they didn’t understand the rules. However, if you inform them of the rules and they still do it again, then they are deliberately breaking that rule.

How would you handle that person doing it again for the third time? – If they ignore both of my warnings, then, depending on the situation, I would message them something like “You did not listen to my warnings, so now you are being kicked/muted.” I would take a screenshot of what they did, and then I would carry out the kick/mute. I would later report the screenshot to the higher staff.

What is your reaction if someone publicly proves you wrong on the forums? – I would thank them for showing me that I was wrong. A lot of people don’t like being proved wrong, but I think sometimes you need someone there to tell you you’re wrong so that you can do whatever it is correctly the next time.

What would you do when someone breaks a rule on the forums? – If it was a complicated issue I would report it to a higher staff member and let them solve the problem, but if it was simple like someone grave digging a thread, I would lock it myself and then report it to someone higher on the chain.

When would you lock a thread? – There are several different reasons to lock a thread such as:
    • A flame war/potential flame war
    • A grave dig
    • A request from the owner
    • A duplicate thread
    • The topic of the thread has been answered
    • The conversation is going off-topic
Describe yourself in 3 words: Helpful, Respectful, and Kind

Anything else we should know about you? – I have been debating whether or not to apply for some time now. I finally decided to do so because I think that I could be a kind staff member that a lot of people would like. In the past, a few people have told me that I should apply for mod because I am so kind. I haven’t applied before this because I didn’t think I was ready. However, I think that I am ready now and that I can become the kind moderator that they think I can be.

Situation: A player is out of the map on MC-WAR. What are the steps that you would take to ensure that this player and situation is properly dealt with? – The first thing I would do in this situation is explain to the player who is OOM why this is unfair to the other players. I would say “You may or may not have been aware, but you are not allowed to be out of map as it is unfair to other players.” If they ignore the first thing I said to them, then I would become a little more firm. “You need to get back inside of the map so that you can properly play the game. This is your final warning” If they still ignore me I would say to them “You were warned twice and chose to ignore these warnings. You are now being kicked for your inability to play by the rules.” I would then screenshot them to report later, and kick them off of the server.

Do you generally know how all the plugins and commands work? –The server that I was co-owner on obviously did not have the same plugins and commands that this server has. I know the basic commands, but I don’t have a full knowledge of all the more complicated ones. However, I’m sure that I will catch on quickly and learn to use everything at my disposal if I become a moderator.

Do you realize that if you are disrespectful or abuse your power, your power will be taken away? – I would never do anything to get me demoted. This is my favorite server of all time, so if I am accepted as a moderator I will make sure to be a good one. The thought would never even cross my mind that it would be a good idea to do something bad to the server.

I know that if you fully read my application it probably took a long time, so I would like to say thank you to everyone who has done so. I really do appreciate you taking time out of your day to read this so that I have a chance of becoming a moderator. If you have any feedback to give me, I would be grateful if you post a comment in the comments section, or if you cannot do so PM me your opinion. Thank you all very much!

Alright Ying1161, thanks for applying for the MC-WARZ moderator position.

    Activity
    - Your in-game activity is spot-on, especially for a non-donor. I see you on all the time and I see you helping other players, you've also helped me when chat has been hectic.
    - You have 526 posts on the forums and most of them are helpful, as you have made a "intro" thread about changing your maturity.
    - Like you have stated you weren't the most active in Teamspeak but you have improved your activity, I'm sure you know that TS activity is one of the most important things that is required as a moderator.

Overall: You need to increase your activity and talk to other players in public channels on Teamspeak.

    Application
Your application was of good length and had a solid amount of detail.
You did have some fixable grammar and spelling errors throughout the application.

And for this question ended quite abruptly, do you have any other experience?

    Overall

You need to increase your Teamspeak activity and talk in public channels and touch up your grammar and spelling.

    +0

This was a great first application and you have room for improvement, stay helpful and touch up in these areas and you'll have my vote!

Thank you very much for the feedback!

I will make sure to increase my activity and reapply sometime in the future!

Regarding your comment about me being a non-donor, that was only temporary. I've actually been MVP for about 4 months now, it's just that when you saw me, it had expired. I just repurchased it today, so this will be my 5th month of MVP.

Update: I just ordered a new microphone which should arrive in a few days. As soon as it comes in, I plan to greatly increase my TS3 activity.

Second Update: My new mic arrives in two days. I will still try to go on TS3 before then, but my activity will definitely increase when my mic gets here.

Third Update: My new mic has now come in, and thanks to some help from @chickenputty it is up and running! My TS3 activity will now greatly increase from what it was when I first published this application.

Your teamspeak activity is slipping and a little bit in-game even though you're only 1 hr behind me.

Get those up and you have my full support.
