[Guide] What the Hardcore Games are all about (McPVP)

Hello Everyone!
My name is Viva, and I've been an avid player of the Hardcore Games for almost 3 years now. Seeing as the ownership of said server is being transferred to brawl.com. I thought I'd post a guide written by McPVP's news group. Most of the information is still relevant today.


Getting Started
Connect to IP: mc-hg.com to join a Hardcore Games match. A timer will appear showing how much time until the match begins. When the server reaches the minimum number of players (50), a three-minute timer will start. You can type /IP into the chat to see the direct connect IP of the server you’re in. You can then give this IP to your friends so they can join the game with you.

This is the best time period to select a kit before the tournament begins. Every player is allowed to select one kit only. Kits are designed to give you an advantage over other players by granting you special abilities or items. They will also include a compass which can be used to track other players.

Choosing a Kit
During the start of the match, a menu will appear on the screen. Each icon represents a kit. Clicking on an icon will open up the kit menu and you can select the kit by clicking the fire, which represents the play icon. You can also enter the command /kit (kitname) to select a kit. After the pre-game timer runs out, all players will be teleported to the center of the map and will be given their kit items.




Best Beginner Kits
Hermit
The Hermit kit is useful for people who prefer to start at points with soup. This kit will try to place you in any biome with soup as far away as possible. In this order: Swamp -> Rainforest -> Desert. If none of these biomes are available, it will spawn you at least 300 blocks out.

Lumberjack
The Lumberjack kit is effective at the start of the game, or in jungles. Your Unbreaking I axe can be used to make every wood block above the one you mined, fall down! This is a great kit for gathering materials quickly and towering.

Cultivator
The Cultivator kit allows you to immediately grow wheat and trees by placing seeds on cultivated dirt, and placing saplings on dirt/grass. This allows you to get food and wood quickly and is a great teaming or soloing kit.

Best Solo Kits
Cannibal
With Cannibal, every time you inflict damage on someone you receive a hunger-bar boost. When you inflict damage on them, they receive Hunger Poison effect (same as eating zombie flesh). You start with a raw fish and ocelot egg; use the fish as food or use the fish to tame your ocelot to scare away creepers.

Madman
The Madman kit will give you an aura that influences people within a 20 block radius from you, making them weaker (not the potion effect) over time. The longer you stay close to them, and the more people within your range, the weaker they become. Resulting in them taking more damage from anything. This makes for a great anti-team kit, turning fights in your advantage.

Grappler
If you throw your grappling hook, it will throw a hook to the direction you aim it at. Once the hook gets stuck in terrain, a mob or a player, you can hook yourself towards them. Keep holding your right mouse button to pull yourself in.

You can also save yourself from fall damage by pulling yourself in before you receive the damage — you will only get 1/10 of the normal damage. If you took no damage in the last 10 seconds, you will be able to throw a hook instantly, or else the kit has a warmup of 2 seconds.

Best Team Kits
Stomper
The Stomper kit is really effective and useful on a large scale. You take 2 hearts of fall damage, regardless of the height you fall. And if you fall onto someone else, the damage you would normally take is inflicted on them. A ‘stomp’ penetrates armor, too!

Endermage
The Endermage is a very handy kit, great for dragging those pesky bedrock campers up to your level! When you place the portal, you’re teleported to that spot too and you and the victim receive 5 seconds of invincibility.

Tournament Timeline:
1. Invincibility Period (Tournament Start until Two Minutes)
Players cannot be harmed before the tournament begins. Players are also invincible to damage for two minutes after the tournament begins. Some kit abilities don’t work during the invincibility period. This allows players to spread out and away from spawn without worrying about begin killed. This is the best time to gather wood and stone to craft weapons and tools.

2. Feast (15 Minutes Into Tournament)
About 15 minutes into the game, the Feast will spawn within 100 blocks of the center of the map. The coordinates will be announced in the chat to the entire server. To check the coordinates of your current location, press the F3 key (on a Mac, press Fn+F3).

The Feast is a large circle of cleared land, and it is impossible to build on or break the Feast for five minutes.

Five minutes after the Feast spawns, chests and an enchantment table will spawn in the middle of the Feast area. The chests will have items like food, diamonds, swords, potions, and TNT. All these items will make eliminating the other players in the game much easier. Be careful, though, because most of the players still in the game will head to the Feast as well.


3. Bonus Feast (30 Minutes Into Tournament)
Around 30 minutes into the game, a Bonus Feast will spawn. The Bonus Feast is exactly the same as the normal Feast; it just spawns in a random location anywhere on the map and its position is not announced to the server.

4. The Pit (45 Minutes Into Tournament)
At 45 minutes into the game, if one player has not won, the server will announce that the Pit will spawn in five minutes. Five minutes after that, the server will teleport all players to the center of the map and will be placed at the bottom of the Pit.


5. Mini-Feasts (Random Times Throughout Tournament)
Throughout the game at random times, mini-feasts will spawn. Mini-Feasts spawn in random locations and the exact coordinates are not given. Instead the coordinates are given in a range (ex: A mini-feast has spawned between x=100, x=200 and z=-300 z= -200). To check the coordinates of your current location, press the F3 key (on a Mac, press Fn+F3).

Mini-feasts are like normal Feasts only with fewer chests. They also have items like diamond, iron, soup, and presents which can be used to get a kit item back if it has been lost.
