Miskey's Guide to Getting Better FPS (1.8+)

Hey guys, I've always gotten pretty horrid fps, but there's a few things, especially in 1.8 that can help you increase your fps a TON.

#1: Windowed Minecraft


(Windowed minecraft is essentially making your minecraft non full screen. The smaller you make it, the higher your fps will go. Although this may be hard for your eyes to adjust to at first, it increases fps substantially.)

#2: Optifine


(Optifine gives you a massive amount of performance setting to increase your fps, which otherwise you wouldn't have acess to.)

(It's an auto install if you have already run the appropriate version of minecraft.)

#3: Settings

(My settings are on the bare minimum aside from particles/potion effects, this is what you will get the highest fps on.)

(Note, turning off terrain animation will disable compasses.)

#4: Small GUI

(Another setting that may be hard to adjust to, but it offers an fps increase.)

#5: Closing the launcher in task manager while ingame:

(Open up your task manager by clicking ctrl + alt + delete . After your game has launched close out the java process that is taking up less memory (the launcher). This should improve your overall performance ingame. Closing any other unneeded programs will also help, be sure not to close anything important though )

#6: Resource Packs

(There are many 16x16 or 8x8 Resource Packs that will substantially increase your fps.)

#7: Linux Launcher

(The linux launcher for minecraft generally makes your game run faster. Seemed to also stop lag spikes for me.)

Click this link: https://minecraft.net/download and select show all platforms. Download the .jar launcher for linux and open minecraft from there.




#8: VBOs

(VBOs load from the gpu rather than the cpu, so this could fix fps problems on certain computers.)

#9: Screen Resolution

(Lowering screen resolution will increase performance. The lower the resolution the faster, although this may be hard to get used to.)
