Brawl has made many efforts to ease the transition for MCPVP. They've listened to the community by making a poll to determine what they should do with the HG variants, they've done an excellent job of honoring the MCPVP ranks, and most of their community and staff team have been extremely welcoming.

Why, then, are most MCPVP-related chats I'm still in bashing Brawl? The core of this issue is IronRaven. I've seen other various complaints, but the majority of issues can be traced to Iron.

First and foremost, Iron seems to be the root cause of the huge false ban problem. Many of the false bans seem to be coming from him. The problem is that this leads to a generalization that Brawl's staff team is simply bad overall, thus hurting Brawl's reputation with the MCPVP community (and leading the MCPVPers to consider leaving and joining one of the other communities that has recently been created instead).

Secondly, Iron is extremely abrasive and has done a poor job of reacting to the last issue. He has been instantly locking threads seeking to discuss the issue - some of them are simply flame and deserve to be locked, but others are actually attempting to solve the problem. I sent him a basic guide to hacker detection and asked him to pass it on to the senior mods (at the time, I felt like the problem was shared by all the banning staff members). Here's his response:

"I know you're trying to help, but the fact that you felt the need to tell me this is irritating and condescending. We already know all of this."

The fact that he responds like this to a constructive attempt to resolve the issue is rather infuriating. I feel that when a huge number of MCPVP players are noticing a problem and not much has been done to remediate it, our frustration is legitimate and we're justified in expecting some resolution.

But, what form should this resolution take? It's probably not fair to request that Iron be demoted entirely or go back to standard Mod - I'm not sure what he did to get his admin position. I do think it's fair to request that he think twice before banning people, and go through some sort of training on hacker detection created by senior mods with a notably high correct ban rate. I would also request that he make a conscious effort to come off as more friendly to those who don't know him well. I'm not looking for any radical changes - things could be improved significantly with just a few minor changes.

I welcome comments, but if you're going to criticize, please read and respond to the points I make. It is extremely frustrating when people make comments like "I disagree, because the Brawl staff are awesome and and friendly!" Please back up your response with evidence, and actually respond to the original topic instead of making a more general remark.

The false bans have been taken care of -- I don't know what more there is to complain about.
Remind me which server crashed and burned?

Before I agree or disagree I just have to say this was a nice job explaining everything, I hope this doesn't turn in to a flame war of course...

I can't put any input of Iron banning people for no reasons, since I haven't witnessed that myself. But if he truly is falsely banning people there should be a reinforced banning/kicking system (just like the big servers have a whole program devoted to banning/kicking people efficiently). Maybe he should be confirming with other staff members but I can't really see a solution to this considering a person isn't some sort of system a coder can go through and Debug. If this is a real problem he should step up and take care of it (I'm not blaming him).

To the amount of Forum Threads that got deleted by him, I wholly agree, I don't want to put pressure on him but rather all the SMOD+s. I think they've been extremely strict about the forum posts, I understand if something is like a flame like "Brawl sucks!!1", but some of them actually are jam packed with meaning that needs to be discussed, wasting that opportunity is throwing away a whole possibility of fixing the community, things don't just get fixed by nicely treating everything, sometimes you just have to be mean to them honestly, because the community doesn't have the whole year to adjust to Brawl (now back on topic). Something like "Brawl mods have been irresponsible [explanaton explanation so on]", is actually something that is good for mods, although they may take it offensively everyone needs room for improvement, if the staff are deleting the threads for personal reasons that would just be hypocrisy and unjust. So maybe the ranged of how much you delete threads should be thinned, after all this is a place we can roam and spread our opinion isn't it?

I've seen the McPvP Forums many times before and I can say there was a lot of freedom there, I'm guessing all of this is partly because of this, I don't blame them making useless threads because they haven't been to our side of the forums yet, ours is muuuch more stricter I can tell everyone that. Maybe slacken up the rules a bit? But the transition to forums has been very hard and I don't blame any of the members, the merge of two great networks will be tough but I'm sure you guys are strong enough to survive it.

Let's not jump to any conclusions. @IronRaven should tell his side of the story.

Despite this, we've all gone through changes and adaptations in our lives. It's not our problem if our rules aren't being followed properly - and it's already been plenty of time being for them to get used to it.

This is an old thing, the issue was already sent to putty and other staff. Y do u bring this back up.

I agree to the idea that you guys should be less confrontational about the whole locking and deleting thing though, but that isn't the main issue I guess.

The only issue I have is the fact that we have been told that we cannot discuss things such as staff complaints on the public forum. PMing is fine and all but it leaves only 1 on 1 conversation whilst a public thread allows multiple people involved to contribute as well as get other people to speak up. This was deleted a while back because of that issue which I highly disagreed with because it involved many people. It wasn't a single complaint about 1 action that had occurred but a recurring problem that needed some form of attention.

Besides that, I don't really think it was good to repost this so much later because it's become rather irrelevant (unless more people have been false banned), but I really wish they'd add a complaints section to allow public discussion of issues with the server.

This is kinda tough to see... This has nothing to do with Mcpvp it's a discussion about a staff member.

    Why?

Good point, however a server is mostly run by a staff team. I really don't want to instigate any flame, and I didn't mean to lead on the above posters. Thank you for being civil. I just don't want Raven taking the hate for the job he is doing well.

I understand my point was a little bit invalid, and I apologize.

MCPVP declined due to a lack of revenue and player retention which was because the demographic changed from gamemodes that take time to play and soup pvp to be replaced with minigames with some not even including real pvp. This, along with constant attempts to invent a gamemode to bring in players lead to the increasing loss of revenue. And also, they had lost a big potential market when many regulars bought lifetime ranks during the EULA issue which would eventually be washed away as an empty threat.

MCPVP rarely had issues with banning players, and there were almost no issues with how they treated bans (besides forum suspensions which were ultimately deserved).

If you wish to know more about MCPVP and why it fell then please PM somebody who actually knows what they're talking about.

That's what the off topic section is for. There's have a rant prefix for the occasion.

Its not really all that helpful since I doubt many of the staff actually look at the off-topic section in regards of feedback. At least there's something.

This comment was really unnecessary, but you did the right thing by apologizing.

Anyways, I agree with @F1r3tar, we should let Raven explain what happened on his side.

You don't seem to realize that the staff are usually friendly and helpful. Threads and comments like these are the cancer of Brawl. I've seen many other ex-McPvPers with a worse attitude, so you're one to say that Brawl staff members are crappy when the community acts ten times worse.

Don't try giving that, "We aren't mods and admins, so the staff is expected to blah blah blah" excuse. They put a lot of effort, time, money, and resources into the servers. They too are players like us. If you are going to be that guy, I'd like to see you take the responsibility of a mod, and be forced to act passive and apologetic all the time.

Sorry if this came out as harsh, but the way the community treats the staff isn't tolerable in my eyes.

As @Risabu said, this issue has already been handled via PM's, I guess it won't hurt to see IronRaven's response, but, before you make any accusations against someone or a network... you really need to understand both sides of the story, which is something I think everyone on this thread should be mindful of.

    @Geothermal
Not sure whatI guess I'll just pick this apart a bit.

I've falsely banned 3 people since McPvP has merged with Brawl. After the first one, I became a lot more careful.
Just following forum protocol. Straight up flame threads are meant to be deleted.
Over the course of this entire year, my legitimate ban percentage (for hacks) is over 95%. I'm not sure how you can make the assumption that I don't think twice before banning people.

If you guys have any more questions, feel free to ask.

lolol Most mcpvp mods got only 3-4 false bans over there whole career (Multiple years). Not to mention banning thousands and thousands of hackers. I would have to guess that the average primary moderators legitimate ban percentage was around 99% (or more).

tl;dr if a moderator on mcpvp had 3 false bans in a span of a few days he would get the boot.

:::I don't know much about your exact situation, I'm just providing background on why people expect so much of you.

This explains a lot, but in this part of the rant:
If this is true, that is rather rude and I understand why he would feel infuriated. You made him feel pathetic, while making yourself AND the staff look superior to all others. Why did you feel the need to ignore that part of the rant?
