Tbh from what I've seen, this chat filter (which fyi most other servers don't have), is causing more problems than it's actually worth??
Like pretty much every other server says cussing is fine just as long as you don't cuss at someone. Ie if I die and just said "****" literally no one is offended except the arrow that's in my face. But if I called someone an offensive word obviously yes that's bad but then that's why there's /report and screenshots etc.

The thing with Nigeria and the actually really good discussion about the censorship of "gay" (that got deleted...? like ok lol...) and probably others that I haven't seen and probably more that we can't predict are proof that there's no need for a chat filter.

I'm sure there will be (mostly Staff) saying "omg but people can cuss at others omg!" but literally that's why we have rules, /report, and screenshots so I think it's really just creating way too much trouble for pretty much no gain.

If you say the community is generally too young and shouldn't be seeing these words than they probably shouldn't on the internet.

I understand maybe some serious words but honestly it seems like you went from filtering cuss words > words that are close to cuss words > now literally any word that may be seen as offensive to the 7 billion+ people in the world.

Maybe follow the American TV profanity rules? Where only censor the serious serious words (which there are like 5?) and then have everything else uncensored.

    Tl;dr-
Get rid of the chat filter, just enforce the rule of 'no cussing at people'

Edit; inb4 this gets deleted, smh

I pretty much agree with this. The word itself holds no meaning, it's the sentence that is offensive

'I'm going to kill you *****' or 'I'm going to kill you' No real difference there.

'I ****ing love you!' As you can see the word is only as bad as the sentence/intention

Actually no, I'm assuming it will because the last discussion on why "gay" should or shouldn't be censored got deleted for no apparent reason so I'm guessing the same will happen here tbh

We have 11 - 18 year olds playing on our servers. We're not going to remove the chat filter due to that reason, it would be to risky.

    Note*
Please keep this thread clear of flaming or offensive posts.
    Thank you.

Why put more work on the staff to prevent cursing at players when the chat filters does most of the work for us? I really don't see how it's more trouble than it's worth. I can see why you may think that due to the last two or so threads about the matter; however, the amount of flame wars it's prevented trumps that.

We don't want kids repeating vulgar things they've heard, especially if it's come from our servers. Our chat filter will hopefully be perfected in the future, but it won't be getting removed.

To be fair, you should at least make it toggleable so it's up to the player to decide what they want and don't want to see.

    Also @the age thing,
    1) most 11+ year olds are in middle school+ and have probably heard worse in school hallwaays
    2) if they haven't, then they probably shouldn't be on a multiplayer video game

While this is a nice idea. Personally, I would want staff to fix the clan glitch that has been broken for 7 months before they look at this feature.
