I'm not sure how to write this without potentially offending somebody, but oh well. Thats definetly not the purpose of this thread anyway.

As you may have noticed, a few of the people that get their moderator applications accepted, resign only weeks, sometimes days and in one extreme case, only hours after getting promoted. Altough some of them have good reasons for it because something unexpected happens, like if their computer dies or a family member passes away, many do not. They apply, get accepted, start moderating and get a nasty suprise when moderating isn't what they tought it was, or they suddenly remember that they have 1 month jam packed with exams comming up. They solve this by resigning, which is the right thing to do if you feel you can't do your duties properly. However, if you resign only shortly after getting accepted, you shouldn't have been accepted, or applied, in the first place.

I therefore think that there should be another question in the application or interview: "If you were to be accepted, would you be able to do your duties 100% for atleast 2 months unless something unexpected happens? Explain in detail."

"Yes", shouldn't be a valid answer. Here is an example of what I think should be a valid answer: "Yes, I will be able to do so because I have loads free time that I put into the servers, and I want to use this time to help the community out even more than I already do. I have nothing comming up that I know of in the upcomming months.

I am also aware that by being a moderator, I will have to devote more time on the servers and TS3 to help out people and deal with rulebreakers, and less to actually play on the servers, and this is what I wish to do."

It doesn't need to be the exact question that I've written above, but something along those lines.

I think this will reduce the number of almost instant resignations because it will give the current staff a better idea of how dedicated the applicant actually is, and the applicants may start to think more when answering the question. They might remember: "Hang on a minute! I've got 4 exams aswell as multiple tests comming up in the 2 next months. I won't have nearly as much time as now to play, let alone moderate!"

Edit: screw you autocorrect!!! It's supposed to be explain why, not explosive why in the poll.

Yeah, I think this is a good question, but I don't know if it's really necessary. I think they should just add something to the mod application that says something like this, "By applying, you are saying that you are able to fulfill your duties as a moderator." I mean obviously things come up that people can't control, but you're right, if someone has finals coming up in like a week, I think it's a good idea to apply later on, when you have more time.

I mean, I don't think an actual question is neccessary. Maybe just make a note that by posting an application that you do realize that you will need to put in the required time to be a moderator (whatever that is opinionated). Of course it's life and things happen but that's what should be expected.

Yes, but by saying it that way, it's easy to think: "Yes, ofcourse" You aren't really thinking thoroughly through events and other things that you know will pop up in in the upcomming months

Yes, but then again, there is a difference between putting in 2 hours as a normal player, and 2 hours as a mod. Many people don't reailze that, and by having them answer a question about it will make it more apparent if they do indeed realize this, or not.

Shouldn't Cuddled just ask this in the interview?

Just like to point out, applications can take a while before getting accepted and planning for everything 5 months away is pretty unrealistic.

I would agree with @quinox_ the time it takes to process applications takes too long. While I think this is a nice question the application process takes to long and things happen. In reality, this should take no longer than 2 weeks. In fact, there should pre-recruiting to encourage the right people to apply.

How I would recommend approaching this - I would recommend adding this to the question set that is asked in the phone interview.

I would also add 1x1 meetings with set questions each week (or every other) to see how things are going with each Mod. I'd have standard questions and this would be one of them. As long as it takes to bring on a Mod more should be done to keep them.

The process for onboarding should be faster and more should be done so Mod's don't quit after 2 week.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Evil

Yeah, asking this during the interview works fine aswell.
5 months is unrealistic, I do agree. However, looking at your schedule a couple of weeks ahead isn't all that difficult. The point of this question is to prevent people from appliyng 1 week before their exams start, or appliyng for mod, only to find out that it isn't anything like what they tought it would be.

There's some 'ups' and 'downs' about this so i'm kind of torn. It is a good question though but possibly reworded differently if we were to implement it.

Yeah, it doesn't need to, and probably shouldn't be worded the way I did. That was just a question I made in a hurry so you guys got the general idea.

Hopefully a staff will over see this and leave a response.

Then those with bed times should take that into consideration before applying. Why apply for staff when you're unsure of your own activity?
With our new staff management system, acceptances will most likely occur in 2 weeks or less. The original idea was to ask yourself if you can dedicate your time for 2 months, not 5. I can tell you right now my next 2 months - most people should be able to do so as well.
The 1x1 seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure about every week. Maybe bi-weekly or monthly, or after a staff meeting (when most of the staff are online).

What if it happens without you knowing? Now it seems that these members will have to stay up 24/7. That must hurt D;. Half the staff I know are barely on.

As a staff member, you are required to put in atleast 1 hour a day, not 24

The mods do have a life beyond the game. It's a lot to ask them to put in more hours.

Granted there are some slackers but this just appears to be how things are always done and they aren't gong to change.

I would also like to introduce the idea of rating the current Mods. From what I have seen some of them take advantage of their role and "like to overstep the rules". When really they just have a personal preference and don't like it when you question them (and call them out).

All mods need to be rated by the community as well on an quarterly basis. Not just during the interview process but as part of an ongoing basis.

Yeah, I completely agree with this one. Definately should be added to the application questions.
