So yeah, I'm most likely getting this laptop. However, before splashing 1200$, I just wanted to know what you guys think.

    Specs:
    • Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.5 GHz Quad Core
    • 8 GB RAM
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M - 2 GB
    • 750 GB HDD
    • 128G SSD
    Link:http://cdon.no/elektronikk/asus/asu...gb-128gb-ssd-750gb-gtx860m-2gb-w8-1-p30781426

The site is in Norwegian. Click on 'spesifikasjon' to get the specs in detail. It is 9500kr, which is about 1250$.

    Ok then m9
    • 2.5 ghz good speed
    • 2 GB VRAM also good
    • 8gb ram plenty
    • 1 Tb HDD is my only quarm
Get a faster less noisly SSD. The HDD might piss you off with the excessive 'whirring'

I've glanced at your other threads I believe but I don't think this has really been answered:

    Why a laptop?

Because I want to take my PC with me when I sleep at my friends' house. Also, I'm only 14, and not particularly good with PC's, so I don't want to take the risk of building one. Furthermore, including the price of a desktop, screen and keyboard, it will cost roughly the same, just with worse specs on the desktop believe it or not. Another thing right now is that laptops are just a much better deal over here in Norway due to the fact that gaming laptops are on sale right now.

Roughly the same price, better specs:
(Coupon cuts it to 900 even)
Monitor: Good size, eh, maybe 100$, better quality up to 200$ish but that's your choice.
Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with a set, covered, sure your keyboard on your laptop is gonna be backlit, alright, whatever, but it's still a mesh keyboard, so is this one, but in later years, say you want to try out a mechanical one, well, you're pretty screwed for the laptop, unless you want to drive it but still is pretty eh. You could easily pick up a cheap mouse and keyboard that works and is backlit at fries for like less than 100$, with macros as well.

So that would average out to about / $1100-$1200, but you can upgrade, customize, get better stuff, it wont die like a laptop, and some better specs.

Yes, this has 745s and yours has 860s, but like I said, upgrades, and to be honest, with the CPU and RAM upgrade on this machine alone, not to mention the VRAM being upped (4G), you shouldn't really have to worry. I actually use this thing, it's a beast, and it's a good beast.

The only issue / complaint I have with it, well, if you're not gonna be close to your router I would invest in an adapter, simply because from experience, the one included in the XPS is utter trash, but that's me.

Thanks! I really appreciate your help!

I checked the price, and it is already more expensive(in Norway that is), than the original price of the Asus ROG laptop. And the Asus is on discount aswell. And I would also have to buy a screen for the dell, which all in all makes it a bit too expensive. However, I really appreciate you trying to help out! Unfourtunately, some idiot decided that the exact same PC is going to be more expensive in Norway than in America. Buying from an American site isn't an option either, as the shipping costs would negate the cheaper retail price.

Seems a bit overkill for what you would be using it for... Judging off your age and the type of programs you would be running id say you wouldnt need an i7 for starters... Even just for running minecraft an i5 or even an i3 (possibly) would do the trick. As for ram 8gb works, if you're strap for cash grab something with 4gb adding another stick in the future if you need it is easy and affordable.
Im not overly familiar with laptop Gpu's (Graphics cards) But something like that seems perfect and should run games such as Battlefield 4 at 30fps and Minecraft will be a breeze.

As for the 2 Storage devices its kinda overkill.... and you dont really need 2, id just pick up a Hardrive and leave an ssd.

Im making these assumptions purely off your age and what i could imagine you using your laptop for (y)

To note anything with the word "Gaming" on it is a gimmick and can practically do the same thing that a normal component can do.

Thats a laptop i7, ie not nearly as powerful as a desktop i7. I want to run World of tanks and Battlefield at fairly high settings, so I don't think I'm going to drop down to an i5. And also, if I'm going to spend this ammont of money, 30FPS is somewhat on the low end. And also, yes, there components might be a little overkill for a 14 year old, but I'm going to keep this laptop for about 3-4 years, and I want it to be able to perform decent-ish for during that timespan.

Realistically the only addition an i7 adds is multithreading which isnt even supported or made use of by most games, instead programs such as Autocad or Sony vegas would use. Theres a reason they update i5's and i3's and pentiums each time they update their cores. Some are just overkill in regards to what you need in this case you could downgrade to an i5 that would be even faster than an i7.

also the 30fps would be due to your graphics card, getting rid of that extra storage device and putting it towards buying a better card would give you more performance.

    Ok, thanks!
Would this PC be a better choice then?:http://cdon.no/elektronikk/acer/ace...0h-8gb-8gb-ssd-1tb-gtx960m-2gb-w8-1-p31925653
It has a GTX960m and an Intel core i5 4210h dual core CPU.

Looks perfect only problem is its a Dual Core Cpu most games require you to have a quad core, if you can find something like that with a Quad Core i5 id go with it. If you have enough money and you are fine with the other build get it, but this is a more cost effective build with more Graphics power for games.
