Here's the first suggestion: Add a 'Forums' section at the top with 'Suggestions' (that would be forums suggestions, and your probably gonna say it should be 'Forums Suggestions' instead but considering there's a huge 'Forums' above it, it shouldn't be a major problem). It already says 'Post site/community suggestions or ideas here.' but that's not very obvious.

    2. When you highlight something in a thread/post, it will have a little 'Reply' button beside it, which will take the text and do what the same as the 'Reply' button does, except you won't have to edit out some of the text if you don't wanna quote all of it.

And the question: Is there a way to lock your own thread?

To lock your own thread, you can always tag a Staff member.

Your second idea is already in XF. It's just not enabled on this website.

I know that. I was asking if it could be added/enabled (as you say).

Please use the report button instead. This allows multiple staff members to see and deal with the issue rather than the few tagged.

    1. The "Suggestions / Ideas" section under Community can also contain ideas for new servers, so I'm not very fond of sticking Forums in front of it.

    2. We currently have this enabled, our style is just outdated. We plan to fix it next time we contract the web developer to modify the site.

    3. You may lock your own threads in Q&A, Clans (Teams, Groups, etc), and Resource Packs.

I like the idea of locking threads myself without bugging a staff member.

    1. When that one guy doesn't like what that other guy said

    2. When you see a flame war brewing before a staff member does

    3. If no one is posting

    Any more? :v

As @PokemonEgg mentioned you can see a flame war brewing before anyone and it would be nice to close it out before that occurs.

In addition, because Mod's are not on 24/7 we could take that administrivia task off their hands so they could do more value added work.

    1. I think that this would be the problem with giving players the ability to lock their own threads. Potentially, we would see a ton of threads locked just because someone disagreed with the original poster and good discussion can still happen.

    3. If no one is posting, the thread will eventually fall from the first page and go unnoticed until one day it is relevant again and it can be posted on. If the thread is locked, new discussion is fully restricted.

I personally feel that it is better left to the staff because players could potentially lock their thread when proper discussion is happening. Flame wars do not happen that frequently and it is beneficial if the staff knows the player has caused trouble in the past when disciplining.

Before you lock it, pop-up notification says: Are you sure you want to lock your thread? Abusing this could result in a warning.

And perhaps staff could get an alert when someone locks their thread to check if it was needed?

That would just be a hassle. It's simpler to just report a thread for deletion.

And there's not much difference in a staff checking the thread if it needed to be locked, they'd come here anyway to lock it, unless they've got some magic 'Lock' button.
