You literally, and I mean literally took the words out of my mouth. I swear I didn't see this earlier. XD

 

Crusades and British (not sure about others)colonialism if you've payed attention in history. Catholicism which is a branch of Christianity had the Spanish Inquisition.

 

I stereotype people because i live in a country were the church owns the vast majority of wealth and does nothing with it . I also have witnessed the homophobic nature of religion and it honestly made me hate religion . And im not saying that the church in general does not do good things , im saying that the bad heavily out ways the good . Take in account how many people have died in the name of a belief , a one that most of were forced in to and were brainwashed to follow . And yes ISIS is a terd of religion no doubt .

And dont get me started how many people were prosecuted by the church ( even nowadays ) The Westboro Baptist church for example which if i had the power would obliterate every individual supporter of . Science was delayed for HUNDREDS OF YEARS , i doubt you even consider the fact that a Catholic pastor came up with one of the first semi-accurate map of our solar system and circulated his model anonymously because of fear of prosecution .

 

I find it funny that people go all out to b*tch about what/who other people like.

I don't support homosexuality (as I was raised) but I don't have any hatred to them. I'm not the person who's going to scream at you for not liking the right thing. Everyone is different.

Seriously, if you like the opposite gender, both genders, or whatever, then so be it! Live life and do what makes you happy. Don't let anyone change that.

Also, yes, I'm a Christian. And please people, like @turkeywing_999, can you not try to convert people's thoughts to what you believe is right? People can worship whatever they want.

 

My parents and grandparents are very against homosexuality; it goes against their religion. My parents are much more lenient about same-sex marriage.
I really have no preference towards to matter, it doesn't go against any religion I follow or does it impede the progress of human rights.

Eyy. I'm just questioning how you can say that you do not support homosexuality because it's how you were raised, and then in the very next line down, support homosexuality seemingly quite strongly with a statement like 'live life and do what makes you happy'. Those two don't seem to reconsile very well.

Nothing against you, by the way, I fully support your statements. I'm just curious how that works.

This thread is the ultimate example of why discussing politics/religion is always, always, ALWAYS, a bad idea. Because it leads to all sorts of bullcrap, like a great many comments that I have read here.

It's really good that we're able to have a (mostly) mature conversation.
Many times in life you'll find a topic where there are multiple opinions and you can't always avoid it so get used to it.

Nah , constructive criticism is great because it can help people form full opinions and get multiple views on the subjects at hand , especially considering brawl consists of small uninformed kids who could really use this online schooling , its healthy for everyone to converse over certain important subjects such as religion , politics ect. That said I dont really have an issue with people who believe in certain things although if they express it in any way whatsoever towards me they are instantly worthless in my eyes .

 

Back on Mcpvp there was a 600-something comment long debate about religions (that I was, like, the second most active person in) which managed to stay mostly flame free. It was pretty cool until a mod locked it for some reason, leaving the last comment which compared atheists to Hitler. That still bugs me and it's been half a year.

Either way, it's possible to talk about this stuff without any flame, just as it's possible to talk about it while ignoring flame. Remember, if it was written on the internet, you're deciding to react to it.

I agree that your post should not have been taken down, even if it was pretty wrong. The locking of posts should be reserved for posts that have no more chance to be civil, or ones that are blatant attacks on people.

However, the fact that you said that you wanted no comments on your video shows that you were either expecting an echo chamber or a flame war, so for that reason specifically, I'm ok with the locking. Not because it was about god, but because your OP made it seem like you didn't want to debate it.

I agree with your point about constructive criticism, however. If you don't talk about this stuff, it just leads to people finding echo chambers where everything they believe is never challenged. It's entirely possible to have a conversation about yahweh or gay marrige on these forums because ultimately people should make the choice themselves about whether or not they read it, and it's entirely our choice to continue flame. If we stay civil, it can lead to some changes in thought patterns.

I'm actually pretty sure I made a Mormon think more about his religion than he ever had before back on Mcpvp, and in return I learned more about the Mormons than I had known. It's actually quite facinating.

 

I don't understand why people say that Christians, or God, are homophobic. The Bible does state that homosexuality is a sin, but we should still respect homosexuals. After all, God hates sin, not the sinners. God created all people, and created them differently for reasons and purpose we may not understand. Regardless of how we perceive other people to be, they are God's creations, and it God's will for us to show respect to everyone.

I think that people think that Christians are homophobes because they are taking the Bible the wrong way. John 13:34-35 states that we are to love ALL of God's creation as god loves us. As God loves everyone, we must love everyone. This indeed includes homosexuals. Just because homosexuality isn't agreed with in Christianity doesn't mean that we can't respect them.

Ugh , i hate this conversation yet maintain it for my personal amusement ! God is obviously a created entitie which was used by people in the past to explain unexplained phenomenon around the world , if you think about it religions explain almost everything unknown to the human kind and have been that ways since the beggining , religions are based of peoples fears and a way to cure them ! All religions explain the afterlife ( the one thing people will never know about ) , Ancient greek religions explained weather phenomenon ( lightning ect. ) and almost every religion has a set of guidelines which are used to maintain their followers in a sort of order . Can anyone here give me 1 reason why atheism is bad ?? I myself am an atheist and strongly believe that many religions simply enslave people and slow down the progress of the human race ! Its 2015 and we are on the internet sharing opinions on gay marriage ! GAY MARRIAGE BEING THE ONE THING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE EVEN BEEN UNDER DEBATE ABOUT FOR OBVIOUS REASONS !!! The thing about christianity as a whole is that the bible says so many contradictory things, you can find a bible quote that says something is ok, then find one that condemns it, for nearly any topic.

Fact is, it doesn't say that homosexuality is a sin in the bible. As a direct quote, it says 'abomination'. There are quotes of the bible saying that Jesus came not to bring peace, but a sword. Because the bible is so inconsistent with nearly everything means that people can take it any way they choose, which I'd think would be weird for the direct words of an omnipotent deity, but whatever.
The reason people think christians are a hateful religion is because so many of them are, and the sad thing is that they can find verses in the book, apparently written by an omnipitent deity, that say that people who love somebody of their same sex are abominations. That, and the fact that those who are OK with homosexuality still call it a 'sin' means that you clearly don't love them because it's a human thing to do, but because you're following the orders of a guy from 2000 years ago differently than everyone else.

 

The only reason why it is bad is because it is a sin. But as I stated, homosexuals, like all sinners, still need to be loved, respected and accepted. You are so absorbed in hatred towards religions that you fail to see my point. I'm not trying to force my religion upon people. I'm trying to resolve the false belief that the true Christian principles do not promote the hatred of homosexuals. If you cannot respect my beliefs and talk in a respectful and mature manner, and that you are simply arguing for your pleasure and entertainment, then please leave this conversation. You are not contributing to this thread and are simply flaming.

The only reason why I got involved in this thread was because people continuously stated that Christianity hates homosexuals. This may be true, that some Christians are homophobes, but true Christianity does not follow this mindset.

Like I just said, just because some Christians hate homosexuals doesn't mean that it is following Christianity. When you state that those Christians who consider homosexuality a sin don't love homosexuals is completely wrong. My understanding of this may be wrong, but I think what you mean is that because Christians say that homosexuality is a sin, then we don't really love them because we are classifying their choices as wrong. First off, we don't decide what is right or wrong. God does. I do understand that this requires a lot of faith, but I truly believe that God is real and following his ways brings eternal joy and that it is the only correct way to live. Also, all sins are "human things to do". Like I stated in my first post, God hates the sin, not the sinner. As Christians, following this principle is very important and shows that true Christians are not homophobes and they don't hate those who are gay. Everyone is a sinner, and we still need to love them as God loves us.
