Back in the day, I could just type in mc-hg.com and I could start playing a game of HG in a few seconds after logging in. It was a lot better than how it appears to be now - a HG game wait-time was 9 minutes.

Some of the time, you'll die in less than 9 minutes. If I die in the first 2 minutes of a game, I don't want to have had to wait minutes to even start playing and I definitely don't want to have to wait even more minutes to start playing again.

HG is a rage-filled game, every HG veteran will know what its like to lose to a cheap strategy, an unescapable trap, or a stomper when you're not paying attention. That's fine, because before you could just hop on, and in a minute or so you'll be playing another game, which you'll generally have more fun.

If I die in HG in a lame way and have to wait another couple of minutes just to get started, I'm not going to want to hop on again, because I wouldn't want to spend minutes of my time waiting for a game which I just played, and raged at. Even if I wasn't raging, I don't particularly want to wait for a couple minute to play another after dying or even winning.

Let's say a HG match on average takes 25 minutes until it ends. A regular player who wins often will have to wait on average 5 minutes before each game. That means in 30 minutes of playing, 1/6th of it will be waiting. Waiting is boring.

The worst part is with new players. On average, new players will tend to last a few minutes, usually no more than 5. That means half of the time, the new player will be waiting. For an hour of gameplay, 30 minutes of it would be waiting. That's not what would make me want to play a server.

Because of this, I'd rather see wait times of at most 2 minutes. Even though I'd prefer it to be 30 seconds, I'd rather have 30 player games every 2 minutes than 10 player games every 30 seconds. I know there's less players, and I know exactly why this change has happened - to boost player counts per game (according to the 1 mod I've asked, @Viva). This doesn't generally help boost player counts per game, though.

As you can see from the video, it started at 34 players and only went to 45 players. Half-way through the video, the server lost players but others replaced them, and it only really began to gain a lot of players when the game was about to start. Its unnecessary to have wait times this long, and the proof is in the video above.

I think it should be as soon as it reaches a specified player count, probably around 60-80 maybe.

I haven't actually seen a HG game that high yet. The highest I've seen is 55.

Also, let's say it is 6pm, 55 players would be expected as a lot of people would be playing. At 11pm, a lot less players will be on, so it may not be able to reach the specified player count.

The number can change, my idea still stands.

But at different times, different player counts should be expected. At peak times, 50 players would be a good number. At other times, it may not even hit 20 players.

It's really a matter of whether games with around 20 people with a wait timer of about 2 minutes or games with around 50 people and longer wait times are better. I personally don't really mind the wait time (as I get to do other things while I wait) but I can see where people are coming from with it being too long. Longer wait times looks good on paper but I think we should take into account that some people don't want to wait a long time to play a game of HG only to die right after the invincibility.

I'm just worried that 20 player games aren't going to be as fun as 50 player games, since those games usually don't go to the 10 minute mark due to the fact that there is usually a rampant hunter in those games. With the player counts now I feel like I can play an in-depth game somewhat like the 2012 days, as you only really need 50/60 players to make a good 25 minute game.

If there was the player base to support two minute wait timers I'd go for it, but I'm just not really sure whether games will be fun if there aren't enough people.

I think this is a problem if you don't enjoy both no-soup and soup. I personally play which ever variation of the game is available at the time, and I have no problem finding a game that'll make me wait perhaps 3-5 minutes, occasionally longer.

I do agree that the waiting times are quite high, but as you said yourself it's the player base that is letting it down.

Perhaps at 15 players the timer reduces to 2 min?

There are 6 HG servers in total , that said i think the long wait time needs to be maintained UNLESS there is a increase in the amount of servers/players in which case a 5 minute wait time can be afforded

That is a problem in itself. People don't want to wait 8 minutes for a game to start, so they don't play. You know there is a problem when you are waiting longer in the lobby than you are playing the game. It just doesn't make sense.

But in a way, Brawl has helped with that by providing some type of entertainment while we are waiting (ie: the PVP) but it does get boring.

What I would like to see is some more pre-game options. Parkour, Mini-Games (like we play minigames until the actual game starts), or what would be pretty cool is that you can go to another game until the game is starting, and then it would tp you back.

That in itself would be something that would be pretty cool. Basically, players could go in and chose their kits, and then open up a game menu and go do something else until the game started. They could go on build/creative, CTF, minecraft party, etc.

But I do agree the wait times should be reduced.

If the wait time is decreased, games will only have 20 or so players most of the times.
Currently I think it's fine how it is, if I see that a soup game isn't going to start for 10 or so minutes, I go into a No-Soup game and just hang out in there for a couple minutes, then I go back and get my strategy ready for the Soup game, this includes warming up, finding a good swamp, judging what kit to use, doing /random a couple times if I don't care.

I agree, it would be nice to lower it. But, it's not possible with the amount of players HG gets right now.

As the video clearly shows, there wouldn't be 20 or so players most of the time and the long wait times aren't really that effective

Most of the time more players join when there's 1 minute-30 seconds until the game starts

Perhaps something like a warning feature should be added, something along the lines of /warn (serverip).

Then, you should be able to go play other Brawl games and 30 seconds before the game starts it should give you a clickable link to join the game in the chat.

This would be a handy timing feature for people like me who lose track of time when playing, and it would also prevent the "I'm bored" factor of pre games as you can play other Brawl minigames.

Perhaps rather than /warn it can auto toggle this after you pick a kit?

I agree with you although it is just not possible to have servers start every few minutes with a total of 6 available . And i for one would be very surprised if it was proven that more players would join a 5minute wait time server than a 10 minute one .

From my experience, hardly anyone joins from 10 minutes to 1 minute, and when there's just 1 minute a lot more people join. I honestly think that it'd not make much of a difference otherwise in terms of player counts.

One of the big reasons why I don't play HG as much is because of the wait times. Most of the time I die in 10 minutes or so. I look at the lobby's and see that I have to wait 15 minutes to play again. Sure I can do something during that time, but like everyone said I wait more than I play.
There aren't enough people to sustain low wait time, but 5+ is unreasonable. Like SoCool said most of the time people join during the 1 minute and the only reason why people would want to wait that long is to get the iron sword.

Atleast slim wait times down to 10 mins. Then people would actually join and wait, while the people who join 15 mins before game starts are just there to abuse the kill your friends to get iron sword glitch.

Thing is a lot of new players will only survive for a couple minutes, and making them have to wait longer than they actually get to play won't really make a good first impression.
