Remember back when there were thousands upon thousands of players on HG at any given time? Remember when games filled up to 120 players in a couple of seconds? Remember when McPvP was talked about a lot, and provided hours of fun for you? I remember it, as should anyone who was active in 2012. Whether or not it is possible to change it back is a completely different debate that I'm not going to touch into, and that is completely unrelated to this post.

So pretty much, if you think HG can't be revived, think objectively for a moment.

McPvP's HG being so popular was completely luck-based. McPvP was lucky that it was the perfect formulae. Teams, traps and towers seemed like big problems, and McPvP thought of it as that. Then, they fixed these "problems", which messed things up a little bit.

Another very popular game franchise is going through a similar crisis right now - Mario Kart. Mario Kart Wii was as popular as breathing, and people loved it - similar to 2012 HG. Mario Kart 7 came along, which was very different to Mario Kart Wii (a perfect formulae despite its "problems"), and thus was much less popular - similar to HG in McPvP, just as it was shutting down. After this, Mario Kart 8 was released. Once again, it was very different to Mario Kart Wii, and thus Mario Kart Wii remains the most loved game.

We're entering the "Mario Kart 8" bit of HG. McPvP handed HG over to Brawl, and Brawl has the potential to change it once again - different from 2012 HG and different from McPvP HG before it shut down. It also has the potential to change it back to 2012 HG.

We - the community - and the staff cannot travel back in time to 2012, but the game itself can. If Brawl makes HG back to how it was in 2012, and I mean exactly how it was, players will start to come to McPvP and it will be as big as it was before. Beneficial to HG, and beneficial to Brawl - all these HG players who'll come back will be potential War 2.0 or DayZ players, when they're released.

A lot of people blame McPvP's downfall on Minecraft's community changing. This is false. We did change, hence why the community did too. We changed HG to something different, something that the community preferred mini-games over. Bring HG back to how it was before, and it'll be as popular as it was before.

Some devoted player might say that 2012 HG was terrible, mostly because of lag, teams, towers and traps. Laggy HG was more popular than current HG.

So, to make HG as popular as it used to be, we need to make HG itself how it used to be. Good luck, Brawl - not that you'll need it, reverting some of the changes isn't a drastic change.

I spent 8 hours of my summer on HG over 2 months before I ever went to CTF back in February 2012. I liked it a lot.

Everything dies out at some point, you can't expect everything to stay ripe.

However, change can differ that. I don't think going back to 2012 will bring the players back. Those older players have moved on, they won't be back.

I found HG because I read the book and typed in "minecraft hunger games"
We need to appeal to that kind of people, whoever they may be.

2012 wasn't that long ago. It'll feel like it, but in reality, its just 3 years. Mineplex has been around that long, and look at how ripe that is.
Older players once were new players. To Brawl, you were once a new player.

And the thing is, old players can be replaced.

I'm not expecting, hoping, or even dreaming of some older players to return. That's never going to happen. However, 2012 was what brought McPvP the old players - when they were new, they loved HG. When players in 2013 were new, they liked it less. When players in 2014 were new, they liked it a lot less. And in 2015, I don't know any HG regular who first played in 2015, at all.

The only exception is Brawlers who've played HG, and there's a reason for that independent to this.

My point is that although old players can be replaced, bringing the 2012 HG back won't cut it. However, I'd like to see how it would turn out. let me ask you this: Why would mcpvp update HG if it was adored back in 2012?

Also, Mineplex is ripe mostly because of the Youtubers and the money put into it.

I'm not an McPvP staff member, so I'm not the right person to answer that. I asked BadBoyHalo, someone who is, and I'll tell you as soon as he responds.

This is completely true. Mineplex is mostly ripe because of the YouTubers and the money put into it. So was McPvP.

What if Mineplex changed their most popular gamemode/mini-game, adored by YouTubers and their fans, into something completely different?

They could get lucky, and they could've made it even better.

Or, they could ruin it. YouTubers loved it, their fans loved it. However, a change, that wasn't even needed in the first place, would've made them not love it.

If the latter happened, they'd sell the ex-most popular Minecraft server to a middle-sized server. For McPvP, the latter did happen.

While I think that some aspects of 2012 HG are worth reverting back too, there were issues back then. I know you touched on the whole teams/lag/traps issue, but I honestly don't think that they were the main cause for change. If you think back, HG first started evolving when cookiemonster/assassin were removed/nerfed. This was the first big change McPvP made and the community loved them for it. So, they decided to try again by nerfing a few more kits. This semi-backfired as a lot of the kits they tried to change were perfectly okay.

Another issue that bought up a lot of hate was the pit. While many people moaned about towers/traps, the pit simply wasn't they way to solve them. It completely ruined 2 playstyles, so McPvP lost a lot of players thanks to that.

Another big one would be how complex kits are now, back in 2012 there were maybe 30-40 odd kits that were simple and effective. While people could argue that kits have to get more complex otherwise you run out of ideas, I just think new players get overwhelmed and back out as they just don't understand what's going on.

Without HG being the priority I doubt it could bounce back. HG was destined for eventual demise as the game is hard to play for newbies (even without soup), the name change to Hardcore Games, and the fact that long term games are just not popular anymore.

Bringing it back to 2012 will just show that the formula no longer works. I've seen a lot less HGers come with the merge too, and without a strong dedicated fan base HG will be doomed to being 2nd rate.

Also, Mario Kart 8 is more beloved than Mario Kart Wii, I don't know where or how you got that analogy.

Anythings better than this lag, over complicated, crit filled server.

Seriously though, HG is heading straight down and they have to do something drastic, although If they were to do this I wouldn't want it to go exactly back to it's 2012 state, there have been some good changes.

Crits are still broken which is embarrassing

The main reason why there were few new players is coz the regulars got good, and new players didn't stand a chance. The change of name also affected this, so CHANGE THE NAME BACK TO HUNGER GAMES

    No, it's legit.
There's no way that happening, Lionsgate nearly sued McPvP over stealing the name of the book and movie franchise.

I can identify with this post , i remember all of the teams and towers/traps but you know that was all part of the game and made it super fun ! I hope that one day we will see this bad HG franchise ( Because thats all it is ) be deleted and we can go back to the game that made thousands of people addicts . And the real issue with HG was them limiting strategies and making people get bored .
