Ok so I went looking through these resource pack forums and I thought "Hey it would be really cool if I could make my own!" So I immediately googled (because none likes Bing) a video on how to do it. Now I thought is was just copypasting the assets and editing them with gimp, photoshop, etc. But no. I see all this 7 zip WinRAR file extracting code changing madness. I would appreciate it if an experienced texture pack maker would walk me through the process, either in the comments or in a pm.

    Thanks,
    _Darkn3ss

I would start with looking at an existing pack and making changes. to the images. Then posting.

PM me if you need help, I was trained by Jedi Master @MikuDesu
and would be happy to help you.

Take a look at my latest texture pack or others and use that as a base to build on. That way, if you have one you like you are building on to one versus creating a new one from scratch.

I mean I would recomend starting with basic edits to 16x or 32x bit packs and if you feel snazzy go for 64x packs but I mean its all up to you!

A great site to create a pack is here. It will give you the necessary files to begin your pack and the necessities: (pack.png, the items and tools to differ their texture). You can edit from 16x to 4096x and more!

Basically, you have to compress/archive the resource pack into a .zip file. It's pretty simple.
I personally use WinRAR to archive my resource packs. It's free and easy to use.

    You should have three items:
    1. The "assets" folder (contains the textures and everything). If you don't know the folder structure, then use the vanilla texture pack as an example. It'll tell you where each texture goes (items, blocks, GUI, etc.) and the corresponding names for those textures.
    2. An .mcmeta file titled "pack". In order for the game to recognize the resource pack, you need this file. Making these on your own is tedious, so I just borrow them from other packs. You can edit the description of your resource pack by modifying the contents of the .mcmeta file.
    3. A small .png image titled "pack". This is the thumbnail image for your resource pack, so it's optional. Recommended resolution is 128x128 or 256x256 pixels.

When you have these items, create a blank .zip file/archive. Then drag the items into the .zip file. Go to your .minecraft folder and place it in the "resourcepacks" folder. Done!

As you can see, making good resource packs is not simple business. I taught myself everything I know, lol

    Another thing:
Texture resolutions must be one of the following:
    8x8
    16x16 - recommended for beginners
    32x32 - intermediate
    64x64 - advanced
128x128 (anything over 128x is considered "HD" and is much harder to work with)
    256x256
    512x512
Anything over 512x is pointless...but you see the pattern.

If you have more questions, then please PM me!
