So lately I've been seeing a lot of applications being made by people who barely have any posts at all. And from reading their application, I can tell that they have not read @Signatured and @GreenPeas's thread whatsoever (either that or they just skimmed through it). I then saw @edin61265's thread complaining about the same thing, and I was just thinking of ways to stop people from making these poorly written applications without having to implement a post count limit. I then thought of this.

What if, before you submitted a moderator application (when you click 'Post thread' in the staff applications section), it directed you to a Google Docs (or something else, I don't know) holding a quiz containing questions from Signatured and Peas's thread? That way, most applicants would post better written applications, then just answering questions like 'What is your experience and knowledge of Minecraft' with answers like 'i like to build stuff'. All of the questions would not be multiple choice, this way the applicant would not be able to skim through all of the possible answers whenever he gets something wrong. If the applicant gets one question wrong out of the total amount of questions, he would be recommended to try the quiz again, but he would still be able to apply afterwards. Any more than 1 question answered wrong and the applicant would be forced to take the quiz over again. This is how it would work:

    1. Applicant clicks 'Post New Thread' in the Staff Applications section.
    2. Link redirects applicant to a Google Docs form entitled 'Staff Quiz' (this step can be edited/tweaked).
    3. Applicant reads through quiz, and answers question to the best of his/her ability (questions based off of Signatured's 'What We're Looking For' thread).
    4. Once applicant is done filling out the questions, he/she clicks 'Submit' (can be edited), and if the applicant got all of them correct, it would notify him/her of this, and the applicant would then be able to create a moderator application. Once the application is posted, in order to post another one, he/she would have to complete the quiz once more. If the applicant got one question incorrect, it would notify him/her of this, and would recommend the applicant to take the quiz once more. However, the applicant would still have the option to create the moderator application. If the applicant got more than one question incorrect, he/she would be forced to take it over, with a button displaying 'Submit Another Form' or something like that.
    5. Applicant posts the moderator application, and hopefully it would have more quality than most of the other applications that have been posted in the past.

    Leave your thoughts below.
    Thanks.

Then again, people would just read off of the page in another tab. But I do think it would be a good idea. This would stop about 50% of newb applicants. +1

I see your point, I didn't consider this, but then again they would still be reading the actual thread, which is more than most applicants ever do. So I guess it's still an improvement as long as they remember what they wrote down on the quiz.

Like Turmac said, they could just read it off of the thread and then still post a fairly nooby application. A lot of the nooby applications are just jokes, so maybe tell them to post it in the Off-Topic section. Nice idea, although it won't stop all of them. +1

I like the idea of doing a quiz or completing some sort of task / challenge to be able to post an application. Maybe not this exact idea, but something similar could be implemented to reduce the amount of new players applying for moderator.

Don't really find this beneficial. I feel like it would be more time consuming than the regular process.

My only concern is, that with this plan how would you be able to say yes or no with questions that aren't multiple choice? Like what I mean is, how can it automatically know if they got it right or wrong? Using multiple choice is still good, but having text wouldn't be good.

Maybe instead of having it be in a separate website the questions could be inserted in the application. So underneath the last question it would be a section asking questions with answers and in Sig's thread. That way when responding to applications moderators could reply to their answers, not string the answer, but just recommending them to re read the guide. +1

I think the Google doc's idea is great idea. It would force people to answer questions step by step.

I don't know how they would do this, but they did something similar to this on the Brawl Slack Trivia section, where it asks you a question automatically and there are many different answers you can put down, and it can tell if you're right.
However, this quiz was supposed to be taken before you were able to complete an application. That way, it would get rid of many of the 'noob' applications that have been posted in the past.

My bad, yes. This would indeed be cool. I would really like to see this. It should clean up some applications and make it easier to sift out the worthy candidates.

I would like this, also I suggested something along the lines of if you don't meet the minimum requirements you're not allowed to post it, like you don't even have permission to click the button 'Post Thread'. But that idea was shot down considering new members with like 100 posts could still make great moderators :c.

I agree, and yeah new guys can just come in apply and get mod *which is very illogical considering the fact players like you and me have been playing for a very long time* if you get moderator you should really have to want it, if you just "would like to have it" would you do a better job the. Someone who works there butt's off to deserve it?

The only people that walked in and got mod were people who were previously staff on McPvP before we merged with them.

There are some people who have gotten accepted without being on the servers to an extremely long amount of time.
If you are a good, mature person who gets a lot of non-spam messages on forums then you can get accepted.
