Too many users = Too much lag

?

Should the server be capped to a player count, with paying players getting preference for access?

    Hey guys-

As you may or may not know, I have spent a lot of time looking for bases to raid and sell. In my travels, I have noticed the server become laggy after 70 concurrent players, and close to unplayable after 100. Horses are sluggish and difficult to control and boats crash into random nearby shore blocks when the server is that laggy. The server kicks me for thinking I hacked, and none of this is fun.

I have a suggestion that the server be capped at 70 concurrent players, and the only players guaranteed a spot should be paying players. Anyone trying to log in above that number should be given a message that there are too many players, but with a membership they would be guaranteed to get in.

This would solve several problems, the first of which is lag during high player counts. The second problem it would solve is revenue for this game mode. If the mode were bringing in more $, perhaps some outstanding issues/complaints could be addressed.

    Feedback appreciated, thanks folks...

um, i think we should have a restart, and then we should have a new server, but i doubt that we can have another server.

Just ask a senior moderator to reboot the server, that should fix most lag.

No, I'm not saying have another server, im saying just cap the player count to 70ish or so. Too many players = Too much lag

The lag isn't because the server, it's because of player count... And the reason a reboot works is because it kicks everyone off, restarting player count at 0

Having a cap would suck. I think that the server should just be upgraded. This would solve quite a few problems imo. However, since survival isn't a high profit server, I doubt that this will happen. I just think it's stupid to have a set number of players on at time. If you think of all the people who afk and the noobs who build in the spawn reset area day after day, this is just a waste of space when real players could be on.

I would agree with you, a solution would be to separate the server into two, but this has been talked over and even I think that is a bad solution. This seems like a pretty good solution, my idea would be a 50 or 65 player capacity.

The players cap wouldn't be a good idea because normally more then half the server is filled with noobs and people standing AFK all day. First off I want to fix a really simple issue: If there is a JMOD+ online kick the AFK people on spawn. Secondly the noobs will fill the server and someone that is really good on that server wound be able to log in because there are a ton of noobs everywhere.

SuperYoloDude, I don't know what the problem is. It can be at 120 players and its absolutely fine for me. What you said suggests it is server lag - but i am telling you for a fact, even at 120 players, nothing is wrong, even at spawn. If it was your internet (not the server) then you still wouldn't lag if you were in a boat in the middle of nowhere for example, cause your internet is only loading your chunks. So honestly, I can't see how your problem makes sense.

I know that the server can handle 120 players, my internet can handle it too but for others probably not. I'm just saying that it wouldn't be a good idea to have a player cap and that I suggest kicking the AFK players on spawn because the only thing they do is stand AFK all day and don't move at all. So that's why they should kick AFK people on spawn or install a "Idle plugin".

This guy has been standing AFK for the past couple of days now, all he does is walk somewhere else and be AFK again. Players like this guy are useless and I think they should kick people like this on spawn.

Ahh, I see your point now. I thought you were saying that the server was laggy with too many players (You kinda did say this!). I can see the point of your idea, but generally, spawn is quite big, and there are usually only 40ish players actually in spawn at once. - If your internet can't handle this, then it can't handle pvp full stop.

Only the player cap should get removed because the server is normally filled with over 20 beginners.
