Discussion: Phoenix HG

Discussion in 'Hardcore Games' started by BlueGuyARed, Oct 11, 2015.

?

Would you like to see Phoenix HG return?

  1. Finally someone said something, yes.

  2. I don't know what it is enough to make a choice.

  3. No, BlueGuy, you are a fool for even posting this.

In late 2014, MCPVP introduced HGv2, which, as some of you might know, was an earlier version of no-soup HG. If you don't know the full concepts and variables between Phoenix, and the current version of no-soup, I advise you to watch one of the videos provided below:

Anyways, personally, Phoenix was by far [not really by far... there is a couple other close seconds], my favorite MCPVP gamemode ever, and when it was shut down, my heart was crushed, I remember having so many debates in the last days of it, and for weeks after, as no-soup was getting prepared to launch. It got to the point where people had to start promising me that Phoenix aspects would be included into no-soup [they lied] just to get me off of their backs. Phoenix had one big problem that Maze also had back in the day, and that was monetization of kits, and that was the central argument that I could never seem to find a counter to.

Let's fast-forward to now. HG has been kept relatively the same, not just since the Beta release, but really, before that even, gameplay hasn't gotten a major change, in such a long time. What HG needs, is something to spice it up, make the game more interesting. Somewhere around this time last year, I worked with a former admin, who at the time was a mod, and we completely re-designed Phoenix, right down to the loot system, and a couple months ago, this admin decided to delete all of the notes we had on the changes, but I think I remember some of the core parts that I wanted to implement some of them go as follows:

. Creating a global ranking system based on the amount of wins and kills: i.e. Global Elite, Silver III, etc. [yes, I know, shame on me for copying CS:GO, but that was what we thought would be popular among the community]
. Adding underground structures, and strongholds
. Random feast events: i.e. lightning storm, tornado, EMP, all the good stuff
. Adding the planned potions into Phoenix: life water for example
. Adding more custom kit abilities; instead of copying Maze Runner [we referred to the community suggestions for this one]

These were some of the most important changes that I remember, now, I do not think that Brawl has the technical backend to support the creation of custom kits, but they should have it, to have pre-set abilities in a certain kit: so you could buy 3 abilities maybe, in a certain kit. Something like:

    Stomper, Turtle, Worm = $4.00
    Kangaroo, Turtle, Urgal = $5.00

Now obviously those two wouldn't be allowed, because that'd be an OP festival, but the point is, the more useful a kit would be, the more expensive.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo, BlueGuy, why the hell are you telling me all of this? Well, as I said earlier, HG needs more spice, something to gauge interest, and make people want to play it again, and Phoenix could be it, so I started this thread for a discussion on whether or not it would be a worthy idea. Thank you for your time.

I remember playing this at one point and remembering it to be somewhat fun. I think it had potential to be good, the thing that threw me off a little bit was the kit customization. It was fairly difficult to balance all the kits but I think it would bring lots of variety to the game.

YES, I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PHOENIX IS, BUT YES.

HG needs to be spiced up, and I like the idea of ranks, which are basically rewards. HG doesn't really have a purpose to it right now to be honest. You win a game, so what, play another one. But HG phoenix has a cool feel to it considering the pre-made maps and such. And custom abilities make it more enjoyable.

If everything was balanced, what's the point in customising your kits?

You know i always enjoyed pheonix, but it just turned into running around the edge of the map until feast grabbing items from chests. It was like item run and get lucky if you find a structure otherwise that team is going to bend you over in the great and powerful name of the holy pleb inquistion.[IMG]

I remember Hclewk shutting it down for a really good reason i just cant recall why.

Yeah, but the frequency of structures can always be adjusted to your Holy pleasure.

Stop dramatizing. Phoenix was ****, just like no-soup tbh.
IMO structures are cool the first time you see them, the second theyre lame and the third they just become like obvious **** you know and make the game ****. It doesn't give that alone in the wild sensation that games like UHC or 2012 HG gave me

Really? Phoenix was always fun for me, it was a faster paced HG, but not quite so bad it was survival games. But it always still felt like I was playing HG.

Phoenix HG was rushed, and with improvements it could be improved a lot. It was only ever released in public alpha anyways, hclewk shut it down because there were bigger things that McPvP needed to work on (and failed to do so). Brawl is not dying, and they should be able to work on making Phoenix HG good again.

Problem is it felt a monotonous at times, as what most people would do was pick grappler and then run immediately to all the chests/structures. If there were more dynamic abilities and abilities not so much focused on pvp or mobility I think it could be cool.

Agreed. Those abilities are the most fun to use, but if more useful dynamic abilities were added, it would be extremely balanced. It also wouldn't hurt to try and give towering and trapping a bit of a buff.

I don't think this should be added as the small HG community is already split between soup and nosoup, adding another version of the gamemode is just going to lower player counts even more
