HG Halloween Event - Pros and Cons

    As many of you know, the Halloween Event took place both no soup and soup. Here's the pros and cons of how it was run from my POV

    PROS:
    1. All major bugs were fixed, crits and kits were fixed. Thanks @Totom3!

    2. Apart from the lag at the start, everything went very smoothly.

    CONS:
    1. Starting game lag. There were only 98 players, imagine if it was the QQ, with over 200 players.

    2. I heard from @Tewtiy that they were forced to fight in the no soup game. I don't think admins and mods understood why people wanted the 40 min kill to be removed so badly - so people aren't forced to fight. Don't ruin people's strategy, if they stand a chance of winning by towering, let them tower!

    The Halloween event went as expected, it was really nice to see so many players participate. There were really no fails except for Nom accidently taking HG #2 down :stuck_out_tongue:

    But there were only 98 players. If we ever host an event with more players expected to participate we will take care of this.

    We didn't force them to fight because they attacked eachother on their own. What we said is that we will interfer if absolutely nothing happens. Watching 2 teams look at eachother for an hour is really unnecessary and blocks a HG server.

    Ahah, very funny!

    I prepared an automatic deathmatch system in case a team wins, but it didn't trigger. Oh and the world border didn't shrink. And the feast didn't spawn... but whatever! :smuggrin:

    @MattM1PVP To be honest, I never got to experience that much stress on the servers (everything used to run smoothly) and I wasn't expecting that. I'll see what I can do for the lag.

    I didn't even know about the deathmatch system and forgot about the borders... well, whatever. Still worked pretty good.

    The border was fine, in fact, it closed a bit too fast IMO. One min I was having a regular PvP battle with NooRiskk, the next I died in the border xD. Feast spawned fine in soup
    Glad to hear :grinning:

    Well I heard from Tewtiy, not too sure what happened coz I was in soup.

    The event was really fun, reminded me a lot of the old Quarter Quells on McPVP. Glad to see everyone thought it was mostly successful.

    As for the point about Tewtiy and Kyle being forced to fight, it was getting a bit over an hour into the game and nothing truly appeared to be happening. The forcefield was quite gradually shrunk, and Kyle and Tewtiy eventually just came out of their tower anyway without having to move because of the forcefield.

    If you have any suggestions that would make these end game sequences better, let us know. We didn't want to let the game run too long but again we don't really want to force people out of their strategy either.

    I agree that the 40 min. limit was bad. This event wasn't planned like QQ's, but I think a lot of us were expecting something similar, in reality it was just a special HG game.
    Otherwise it was pretty chill.

    I said something in chat about the border not closing in (I had towered there) and immediately regretted it as the border started closing in. I already had secured my free kit and sadly had to go, but it was fun! :smile:
