Perhaps Brawl could change some stuff to make it French-themed for a bit. Y'know, changing colours in the lobby or making the CTF flag look like a French flag.

I agree. Terrorism has no religion.

As much as I hate to be mean in this kind of situation.... no. This suffering has been happening for years in Syria. Why is it that as soon as people a little closer to home are killed it becomes a big thing? We are all human, why should the people killed in Paris get more recognition than those in Eastern countries?

Because hashtags make people feel better about themselves, tbh.

I feel for everyone in paris, and I truely think that this is an abomination that should never happen to anybody, but the only thing that makes Paris noticable is that it has the word 'terrorist' attached to it now, which gets people more scared than 'starvation' and 'disease' because those can't directly affect them as easily.

Sorry to be rude about this, but at least realize that by standing up so publicly to terrorists you're indirectly inspiring more terrorism because it's effective at spreading terror.

Still, I stand with Parisians, and I truely am hoping for the wellbeing of the families and law enforcement in the city.

Ehh I disagree, as this terrorism in the end will only downplay Isis political motives. I doubt France will stay quiet over this. At the end of day, terrorism is aimed at spreading terror to fulfill political goals, which is interesting and ineffective as in the case of Islamic terrorism in the western world, it often leads to extermination of the perpetrators.

Which then causes outrage amongst those who support the cause of ISIS or other groups, who then go on to commit more acts of terror.

It's propaganda, essentially, which in the end just causes exponentially more death and destruction in the name of peace.

What we should do is focus on making the lives of people in Africa, India, and anywhere stricken by poverty better, possibly by taking funding out of the US 'defense' budget that's being sent overseas in offensive missions, and use it to feed people and improve quality of life.

More people die of starvation within a few months than the sum total of people who will die to terrorism in an entire year, but yet so much money goes to stop terorrism, and then ends up killing more people!

Problem is, there simply isn't enough food to sustain a population of 7 billion. As horrible as it is, if Africans weren't starving, we would be.

    There are several reasons.

Firstly, France is the US' oldest ally (save arguably Morocco). They helped us get our independence and we have had strong national ties with each other for hundreds of years, both politically and socially. Our society evolved from the principles of the French society. For this reason, they are a lot like us.

Secondly, this is an extremely unusual event for France, and we sympathize with the victims of rouge terrorism. Syria is in a state of civil war. It is to be expected that people will be killed - that is how war works. I'm not saying that it is any less terrible people are dying, but it is definitely different. These terror attacks are not to be expected - they are sudden and rouge, in an otherwise extremely peaceful country.

Thirdly, the purpose of these attacks is to wound the spirit of the French & other westerners (and also to increase xenophobia, but that is a complex topic - edit, looks like @BAWSS5 touched on it). By showing our support for them, we help prevent this from happening.

Fourthly, people who suffered from this attack know that a lot of people all around the world are thinking about them and supporting them. It'd be horrible to lose a family member or a friend, or nearly lose yourself to this, and I bet it really helps those who are in that situation knowing that millions of people worldwide are supporting them. Morality is very important when it comes to terrorist attacks, because no matter what the world tries to do, there'll always be terrorists and the best thing to do is to not worry about it.

But there's clearly enough money to fund research to make better foods grow faster and more heartily, while still funding humanitarian aid AND keeping a relatively sizable military force to eliminate threats to the country.

In fact, I'm fairly certain that the only real limiting reason there's not enough food to feed the world is because there's more money being spent on U.S. military and 'self defense' than there is on almost everything else combined.

You can do a lot more with 736.9 billion dollars than kill people.

Also, seeing that terrorism is performed with the express purpose of spreading a political agenda, which seems to have succeeded because everyone around the world with some form of internet connection knows about the attack at this point, a global show of unity does a pretty fantastic job of showing terrorists that they're being taken quite seriously by the rest of the world.

Terrorists should be taken seriously - these terrorist attacks are no joke and everyone will hear about it regardless of if people support Paris or not. Unfortunately terrorist attacks will never be fully stopped, so supporting the friends and families of victims to make the terrorist attacks less of a horrible experience for them helps a lot.

Terrorists should absolutely be treated as a joke! They should be ignored by the media, denied the publicity they want! They shouldn't get free reign of the world via social media, they shouldn't be able to turn the entire world's eyes on their cause with 5 people, they shouldn't be given any media time of day!

    Terrorists kill hundreds.
    Cancer kills thousands.
Starvation kills hundreds of thousands. Disease kills millions.

Which three could be solved with nearly a trillion dollars? Cancer, starvation, and disease. Which gets nearly a trillion dollars? Terrorism.

Absolutely show support for the people of paris, but in doing so don't make it a massive 'anti-terrorism' thing.

Because by taking terrorism seriously, you're actively detracting from the seriousness of other issues.

And just so we're clear, I'm not saying don't fight terrorism. I'm saying don't make it the massive problem it wants to be.

My thoughts on terrorism hasn't changed at all - before and after the attacks, I thought terrorists were horrible. People are lighting up buildings not for anti-terrorism but to support Paris.

Also, terrorism has the potential to kill billions. What happens when ISIS gets their hands on a nuclear weaponry? Don't get me wrong - cancer, starvation and disease are big problems, hence why I donate to charity a lot to stop things similar to this (yesterday, I donated £30 to Children in Need). However, terrorism is a big problem too, and has the potential to be a problem fatal to humanity.

What you're doing here is looking at the problem from a world view and humanitarian angle, which isn't how things are perceived or will be perceived for a long time. Its an issue of 'our problems' vs 'their problems'. We value our own issues over the starvation of someone in Africa or the like, because we don't hold any responsibility over them. The world is selfish and will be selfish. I can honestly say that I'd rather see myself be protected more than saving some random guy's life.

What you're suggesting here would be that we DON'T hunt down ISIS and just ignore this attack, trying to forget them away, which will honestly never happen. ISIS isn't a small group anymore, and must be dealt with before it becomes a bigger danger. It matters not if more death and destruction is caused in the name of peace because if nothing is done, more destruction and death will happen anyways. I have seen this before, and it will keep happening until the threat is stopped. Its admirable that you believe resources should be expended to other areas, but its simply not the US' responsibility to do so. I myself as an Indian can admit this, and don't expect any help from the US. The US has its own problems.
