Other This I Believe

Have you ever thought about your previous self? That past so obscured, yet so clear? The past that you may see as joyful, or the past you may view as woeful? Those actions you took which you had complete control over, those mistakes, have you ever yearned for the ability to fix them?

I believe we all have a strong ability, an ability locked up that must be discovered. The ability to comprehend the actions we take and to further see what may lie ahead in the steep path of life. The ability to peek ahead at that extra mile, without falling down. I believe in not leaning on the crumbling wall of the past, but rather to observe the crumbling wall, perceive its stories, and the grim tales that tell its fall.To acknowledge those tales and carry on to the walls that are being built, the new walls beholding a new future, your future, in which you can rewrite anytime.You can't change the broken wall of the past, but rather the new wall, the new wall that's being built, your future is what you can change.

There are many things I have wanted to change in the past,embarrassing moments, bad grades, orbad relationships. Sometimes I would want to travel back in time to mend those things, but as time passes, and the obstacles which I have passed lay behind me. The truth unfolds, the truth that those things cannot be mended. That falling wall can't be fixed, no matter how many times you try. I believe that hanging back and trying to fix that wall will just hinder your progress on building the new wall, the new future that awaits.

I wanted to fix that crumbling wall, the feeling of regret and distress, seeing that crumbling wall past you just stand there in utter failure. Those moments I think about the big, and the small details I performed. How not paying attention or valuing the years of my life, ignoring the beauties of the world, would ruin some aspects of my life. To waste my time in entertainment that will only last me the time I spend on it. I've wanted to change those times, to be aware of the world outside my consciousness, but as time elapsed, I would have to leap past that crumbling wall and out unto the new wall.

For these reasons I ponder, spending those extra minutes to think about the plans for my wall. Not to waste those minutes playing around the wall, the wall that has yet to be built. To not slack off, but to stay focused, to moderate the times to give myself enough time for the wall. For the wall is my future, and to leave your future behind you is insanity: The failure to comprehend what lies ahead. For I believe we all have a wall to erect, a task we must finish.
