This has come to my attention just a while ago. In Survival PvP I have to talk in public chat to share things with my friends, even though some other people shouldn't be hearing it... I could message, but it's a group of people I'm talking with. Which introduces a new concept, Friend Chat Rooms. This is basically a GUI where you manage who's in your chat room and invite friends, your friends can invite their friends. And when saying a specific command it toggles whether you can chat in the group or not, and you can see which server the people are in (useful if they aren't your friends).

There are lots of things I haven't included, but I'm sure many of you can fill in the blanks , this is very useful for being with friends and meeting new friends :grinning:.

It does, but it only lets you chat with your teammates. Like if you have friends outside your team or allies, you want to talk with the whole group, this is a good solution. But this doesn't just apply for Survival, it applies for other gamemodes as well.

I like this idea, it's kind of like a little chat party for group of friends. I know a server that has commands such as /party create, /party invite, /party leave, etc. It's very useful when you want to talk with more than 2 people and most of your friends know each other!

Would be really helpful and could be easy to set up. +1 for this idea.

I believe you can do this on slack. I haven't checked in on it for awhile but I am pretty sure you have the option to have private or controlled chat.

And even if you could do so through slack, I believe the idea was to create an environment in game. That would take away the need to switch between applications.

You can, but its a lot easier to just have it in game. Also, not everyone has Slack.

There is no such thing as friends on Brawl. The last thing this server needs is another utterly useless chatroom which encourages you to spend more time pointlessly chatting with random people - that you don't even really know - instead of going out and raking the leaves like your mother asked you to!

Also most people on this accursed server already have Skype and Team-speak (yes, there is not one but two types of free software that can be used for talking with groups of people!) so there's literally no need for this in the first place aside from making chatting with 'friends' in-game more convenient. However, that is a ridiculous waste of time to implement when there are so many other things that need to be worked on such as the seven new game-modes (something like that) that are supposed to come out 'sometime' in the future.

I had to rake and fill 10+ bags of leaves ._.

I do see your point in there, Teamspeak and Skype are useful for talking, what if you can't talk? Some people don't have these kind of applications and chatting in-game can be a fix. Reaching out in all aspects in the game itself can make Brawl more of a social experience. For example, you go on a server where you can't chat, you have to do it on Skype (horrible example but it shows how if you enable chat it will make your life much easier).

This is pretty easy to code, it wouldn't be anything compared to the gamemodes the coders are making, pretty much just a little GUI with a chat room. You can invite friends to your chatroom, and I said they can invite their friends. I found that more than half the friends I have, were my friend who got me hooked up to them. I made a load of friends just by my friends and I playing with their friends. Even though this may not apply to other people, the chatroom/party owner can just kick the people out if he just wants to play with his friends.

    That's my boy :stuck_out_tongue:

I still don't see the usefulness in the idea. I mean as I understand it Brawl servers are meant to be played on, not to catch up with your social networks. We have Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Friendster (yes, even Friendster), Tumblr, Teamspeak, and a million other apps or sites for that. On the other hand what you are proposing is both silly and not efficient because if you really wanted to have any form of meaningful conversation with your 'friends' in game you'd have to take out a whole bunch of time to talk to them without actually playing that much. (point being that talking through a chatbox while playing is much more cumbersome to do than just chatting on Skype or Teamspeak)

As for making Brawl 'more of a social experience' again there is Teamspeak, Skype, Slack or the Forums all of which make Brawl quite a social experience imo. If you can't talk (vocally) then too bloody bad. Gamemodes are meant to be experiences where people play not where they talk with their friends in some GUI chat all the ruddy time. I mean, take CTF for example, it is darn near impossible to play and constantly chat with one or more people in game, which makes GUI chat rooms pretty pointless from the start. Hmm... I think I've gone over this already... Anyway if you're really desperate to talk with all those randoms you 'know' then use open source software! It's free! Some of it doesn't even require an install to work! (like Teamspeak) And if that still doesn't work out then go on the forums and make hundreds of posts like me so you can get all that mad respect you crave from your 'bros'.

Slack was incorporated for this exact reason. If you need clarification on how it works talk to chicken putty. You can have both open in game. However, I agree TS and Skype are used already. Slack brings an added layer of protection to IP addresses etc. Your talking more about in game team strategy that can occur without TS or Skype. Not "friends", because there are plenty of empty group chat rooms on TS to use to chit chat about your day. Which by the negativity seen by some there would be no point in talking about your day. Talking about destruction of another team...now thats what ya'll want. Call it what it is.
