Brawl Junior Moderator Application: Before you read my application, please note that even though I am not from MCPvP where Minecraft Build is originally from, I do have a complex knowledge about the server as I have read through all of the threads that state the information and guides about Build. For the past few months, I’ve helped out many players who were new to the server. So far, there hasn’t been a problem considering Build is very much like Creative and I am rather familiar with Creative.

Have you read over this thread?- Yes, I have definitely read over the entire thread along with a few accepted applications, word by word. It’s been quite a while since I have been interested in making a staff application, so you could pretty much say that I’ve read the thread multifarious times. I believe that I am ready to apply for this position after thoroughly reading and understanding the requirements that were stated by Signatured and GreenPeas_. I have definitely improved on my maturity, activity and helpfulness during the past year.

What is your in-game name?- My current in-game name is potatospookpie. I changed it about a week before Halloween from my original name, potatopotpie. I am certain that I will be changing my name back to the original name as soon as I can, which would be near the end of November or in early December.

EDIT: I changed my name back to my original name, so now my in-game name is potatopotpie.

Have you changed your name in the past? If you have, please list them.- Yes, I have changed my name numerous times in the past. The previous name changes that I’ve had were AdorablePotato, TatoPie, Potatoto, and potatopotpie. (Check Spoiler for more details)

Does anyone else have access to your Minecraft account?- No, not a single person has access to my Minecraft account other than myself, and I plan on keeping it that way for sure. I change the password for all my accounts every once in a while just to be more secure and guarded. I can guarantee you that my siblings are not interested in using my Minecraft account at all, considering my brother already has his own Minecraft account and my sister is not into video games.

How old are you?- I am currently 16 years of age. I was born on October 8th in 1999 and just recently turned sixteen. I’ll admit, I am not the most mature person but I am mature enough for my age and if not, more than most teenagers.

I guess you could say that I have been quite immature in the past but that was about a year ago. I believe that I have matured up a lot during that period of time. Most players probably noticed the changes, but if you have not, I would be blithe to show you that I have improved my maturity drastically.

What time zone are you in?- During the summer, it would be PDT-Pacific Daylight Time or Pacific Daylight Saving (UTC-7:00). During the winter, it is PST-Pacific Standard Time or Pacific Time (UTC-8:00). I live in the Western part of Canada. (To be more specific, British Columbia)

Are you multilingual? Can you speak multiple languages?- Yes, I am multilingual. I can speak Korean and English fluently. I will go into details with each language below.

Korean: I was actually born in Korea so I can speak Korean. However, I learnt this language as a child (I moved to Canada at the age of 9) so I may be a little rusty. Although I may not know as many advanced words and expressions as most teenagers in Korea, I am able to read, write, understand, and speak Korean fluently. And maybe even translate English to Korean or vice versa, but this probably won't come in handy during my time at Brawl since I haven't really met anyone who is Korean.

English: Since English is not my first language, I’m not the best at it. But I have been living in Canada for a while now and have improved a lot throughout the years. I get pretty good grades for this subject in School and a lot of my Internet friends think English is my native language, so I believe I don't need to worry about making a lot of mistakes when speaking, writing, or reading English. Though, sometimes I have trouble understanding, considering I don't know as many advanced words and expressions.

Japanese: I wouldn't really consider this as a language I know, but I still wanted to add it here since I have learnt a tiny bit of Japanese during the 2nd semester from my school last year. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough to have a conversation. But glad to say, I will be learning Japanese again during the next few years and hopefully, I’ll be able to speak Japanese fluently! However, it probably won't really come in handy either.

What is your experience and knowledge of Minecraft?- I have been playing Minecraft PC for more than a year. I know this isn’t too long considering that others have been playing for ages, but I learnt a lot during that time and have good amount of knowledge and understanding of it. Also, considering that I’ve played the Pocket Edition version for a long amount of time, I would say I am pretty experienced with Minecraft in general. Including the years I’ve played on Pocket Edition, it would be about 3-4 years of building and playing. I will go into details with my Minecraft PE, PC and Brawl history below.

Minecraft PE: I started out with Minecraft Pocket Edition Demo in grade 8. When I was in middle school, Minecraft was a big thing and that’s when I first heard about it. In one of my classes, there was a presentation that a group did using Minecraft. At that time (grade 7), I had absolutely no knowledge about it whatsoever and couldn’t understand what it was about since I couldn’t speak English as well. My knowledge about Minecraft grew when I was (grade 8) over at one of my friends’ house (who I still keep in touch with) and she introduced me to it while playing on the pocket edition version. After seeing her play, I got interested in it and downloaded the Demo version. She suggested that I should get the full version of Minecraft since she knows how much I love making or building things whether it was with Lego or anything that I could use to build with. I instantly fell in love with the game because it required me building and crafting which I loved. However, I was wretched that I couldn’t save the worlds that I worked on. Finally, after a month or two with the demo version, I got the full version of Minecraft Pocket Edition and I was really excited. Whenever I got the chance to build or play, I got on it and built as many things as possible even though I wasn’t the best at building. My love for Minecraft grew as years went by.

Minecraft PC & Brawl: I got Minecraft PC in the summer of 2014, around the end of July because I wanted to have access to more things when building and whatnot. I loved Pocket Edition, but it was time I moved onto the bigger and better version. I honestly don’t have as much to say about the PC version, so I’ll just move right onto my history and experience with Brawl.

After getting Minecraft PC, I looked for a bunch of Servers because I wasn’t having as much fun playing on Single Player. The first thing I searched up was Minecraft Party Servers and found out about Brawl’s Minecraft Party. I joined Brawl (in-game) on July 30th in 2014 and the first gamemode I ever played on was MCParty with my brother. I had so much fun on it that I would play on Party with my brother pretty much all day, every day. So when I finally got tired of Party and found out about the /hub command, I wanted to try out a new gamemode which turned out to be my all time favourite. Because I have always loved building, the first thing that caught my attention was Creative. I loved the big community and the amiable players on it. After a few days, I made an ample amount of friends there and a lot of them were thinking of applying for ranks. I was inspired by them to also make a rank application to join in on the fun which is how I joined the forums. I joined the forums on August 8th in 2014 and applied for AdvBuilder right away. As soon as I got AdvBuilder, I found myself immediately climbing up the rank ladder and earning the highest available rank, WEPro. I was extremely proud of myself working my way up to the rank within a blink of an eye. The fact that I got so much support on my WEPro application just meant the world to me. So moving on to where I am today, I would say that I have improved my building skills a lot throughout the years of building. Honestly, when Brawl bought MCPvP, I wasn’t too happy about it because I heard that Creative would be replaced by the newer gamemode, Minecraft Build. However, after building on Build and making a lot of friends there, I found myself enjoying my time on Build more and more each day.

To sum it all up, I have been playing on Minecraft Pocket Edition for two to three years and Minecraft PC for just over a year. I spend most of my Minecraft time playing, building, and communicating on Brawl and have been ever since I got PC version of Minecraft. I am gleeful to say that I love staying here at Brawl with the gregarious players and the great community.

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any?- To be completely honest, I have very little to zero experience in moderating servers. I have never actually been ranked a Moderator in any of the servers that I have played on, but I have been considered one by many players and maybe even a few staff members. I actually don’t play on a lot of servers which explains why I don’t have much experience with moderating any. However, during the long period of time I’ve spent at Brawl, I have showed a lot of mod worthy behaviours, according to a lot of the players on Creative and a few from other gamemodes. This thread was actually made by one of the players from Creative regarding my behaviours. In fact, I was veritably interested in applying for a moderator and when many players suggested that I would make a good moderator, I finally made the decision to apply.

What will you provide to the community if you are provided moderator status?- This is one of the questions that I am mostly thrilled to state my answer to. Even without the moderator status, I try my best to do as ample amount of supportive and helpful things as attainable, but of course, with the ability that I currently have. If I was provided the moderator status, I would be able to provide more things to the community which I am captivated in doing. Patently, as what most applicants would write on their application, I also intend on helping out the new members of Brawl when they need help with anything that has to do with Brawl, whether it’s on TeamSpeak, in-game, or on the forums. As cliché as it sounds, I am determined to change our community in a good way and give worthwhile and optimistic impact towards the players and the community. As a WEPro on Creative, I tend to do a lot of chat moderation when staff members are not online or are busy. Considering WEPro is the highest rank that you can apply for, players listen to me most of the time when I tell them to stop spamming, abusing ranks, etc. Also, because I have been WEPro for quite a while now, a fair amount of players ask me to check out their builds and rank applications rather often. When people need assistance with their builds, I try to offer suggestions and help on what they can improve on.

To conclude, I will provide assistance in building and continue moderating the chat since I know Build’s chat can go out of hands sometimes with the spammers, flooders, and flamers. I will also help out any new players that need support or guide, and even though this may sound extraneous, when our community member needs amity, I’d be pleased to help them out at any time whether it has to do with Brawl or not. Most importantly, I will do my best to eradicate rule breakers, spammers, hackers, etc.

Have you ever used a hacked client before?- No, I never really had the knowledge to know about this nor was engrossed in using any hacked clients at all. Though this may be a good thing, I feel that it has a slight disadvantage since if a player decides to use a hacked client and I am not familiar with it, then it would be difficult to tell whether they are actually using one or not. I feel the need to do a bit of research about some of the popular hacked clients to have at least a bit of knowledge about this, so it could help me out when catching hackers. However, I do not plan on using a hacked client in my Minecraft career because I find it inconsiderate, vacuous, and unjust.

Have you ever been banned on a Minecraft server? If so, why?- No, I have never been banned, kicked, or muted (other than the times that I received those 5-10 seconds mutes for typing too fast in-game…) on any Minecraft servers. The reason for this is probably because I don’t play on as many Minecraft servers as most people do and I’ve never been or will be interested in doing any imbecile things to get myself banned/kicked or even muted.

What do you consider your greatest strength?- My greatest strength is being equal and fair. I don’t like being biased when it comes to a lot of things. I like to judge and treat everything equally which you might have noticed from the way I judge rank applications. Also, I am not afraid to say what may be on my mind, and I actually consider this a good quality because sometimes people need to a good constructive criticism. However, I wouldn’t ever say anything if I feel that it is offensive or hurtful in any way.

What do you consider your greatest weakness?- My greatest weakness is definitely my persistence. I tend to get distracted quite often and I am a bit indecisive as well, but I am working on improving these qualities. Another weakness would be that when it comes to talking with people, I get social anxiety and it’s hard for me to really talk with anyone unless it’s through texting and/or messaging. I will work on this though because once I open up I’m actually a friendly person to talk to. But it definitely takes time for me to get used to talking with someone, which I’m hoping many people would understand..

How active do you consider yourself on Brawl?- I consider myself extremely active on Brawl. The reason for this is because I am online schooled which allows me to have a really flexible time schedule. I will go into details with each areas below.

In-Game: I’d say this is where I am the most active on. I am on Creative and Minecraft Build for majority of my day. Most of my builds on Creative are complete so I do spend more of my time working on my build(s) on Minecraft Build.

Forums: Although I don’t have as many messages as most staff members, I am quite active on the forums. The reason why I have low message counts is because I comment on a lot of rank applications and not as much on other areas. Sadly, the comments on rank applications don’t count as messages but I can guarantee you that I am on forums every few hours a day.

TeamSpeak: This is probably where I am the weakest on. I am doing my best to increase my TeamSpeak activity and also working on talking with people there. I have talked to a few players on some of the public channels for the past few days/weeks and I think I am doing alright. If you haven’t seen me around a lot, it may be the time zones because I have been on it quite a lot lately. (FYI: I sometimes use a different laptop to get on TeamSpeak)

Which Brawl servers are you most active on?- As I have already mentioned in the question above, the servers that I am the most active on are definitely Creative and Minecraft Build. I (re)applied for Brawl’s Build Team a few weeks or maybe months ago and if I do get in the team, I would be spending most of my in-game time on Minecraft Build with the other team members working on builds together. As stated earlier, most of my builds are on Creative but they are complete. I’ve been working on a large castle and a Skywars map on Minecraft Build that I would be gleeful to finish as soon as I can. I have been very active on Build while working on the Skywars map along with a few other builds.

Some other gamemodes/servers that I play on Brawl are Skywars and Minecraft Party. I don’t play on these as much as I do on Creative and Build, though. In addition, I used to play Survival Games quite often and once in a while I play on KitBrawl just for fun.

How many hours can you provide a day and during what time frame?- Since I take online school and have a very flexible time schedule, I can usually dedicate around 6-7 hours of my day. On the days that I have work or anything else that’s personal, I am able to provide about 4-5 hours of my day. However, I am on my laptop for most part, so if I do get contacted whether it’s on Forums, Skype, Slack, or TeamSpeak, I’d be able to help out right away. Majority of my morning to noon and usually at evening or midnight, I am online.

What would you do if someone breaks a rule in-game?- I will go into specific details with each negligence/violation individually below.

Chat-Related: (bypassing chat filter, spamming, advertising, vulgar language, racial/offensive comments, caps, flames, profanity, etc) First, I would inform them that they are disobeying the rules and give them a warning. Then, depending on how they act after the warning, I would either mute them or warn them for the second and final time. I would keep my eyes on the player for a bit just to assure that they’ve discontinued the said behaviour. If the player continues to disobey the rules, I would finally kick them for a needed amount of time, with a message explaining why. If the player fails to abide by the rules even after being muted or kicked with several warnings, I would apprise a higher staff member via Forums, TeamSpeak, Slack, etc.

Glitching/Hacking: First, I would open up my screen recorder and start recording the glitcher/hacker. Before reporting the player, I would try to kindly let them know that they are disobeying the rules and tell them to stop immediately. If the player continues to disobey the rules, I would finally kick them for a needed amount of time, with a message explaining why. If the player fails to abide by the rules even after being kicked with several warnings, I would apprise a higher staff member via Forums, TeamSpeak, Slack, etc. so they could deal with the bans. Depending on what the situation is, I may do these steps in a different order.

What would you do if someone breaks a rule on the forums?- I will go into specific details with each negligence/violation individually below.

18+/Vulgar Content or Material: If I find a profane content, I would PM the player asking them to take it down if they are able to do it right away. If not, I would immediately lock the thread and report it to a higher staff member.

Grave-Dig: If I see someone grave-digging, I would inform them to not post on a thread that is over 30 days old, then I would lock it right away for grave-dig.

Flame War or Profanity: If I notice a flame war or profanity, I would kindly ask them to calm down and stop. If it gets out of hand, I would lock the thread.

Duplicate Thread or Answered Question: If I were to see a duplicate of a thread, I would post a link to the thread that was duplicated, and then lock the thread. If the thread was about a question that has already been answered, I would do the same as duplicate thread and post a link to the other thread with the answered question then lock the thread.

Resolved Thread: If the thread has been resolved, I would lock it and mark it as resolved.

Wrong Section: If the thread was posted in the wrong section, I would move the thread to the right section.

Off-Topic: If the thread goes off-topic, I would ask the players to keep it on topic. If necessary, I would lock the thread.

Advertisement: If I find someone advertising, I would PM the player and tell them to not advertise. Then, I would lock the thread and/or report to higher staff member, if necessary.

What would you do if someone breaks a rule on TS3?- I will go into specific details with each negligence/violation individually below.

Voice Changer or Soundboards: If I find that someone is using a voice changer or soundboard, I would give the player a warning and tell them to stop and turn it off. If they fail to do so, I would kick them or ban, if necessary, for an appropriate amount of time.

Irrelevant/Inappropriate Name: If someone has an inappropriate/irrelevant name, I would ask them to change their name to their in-game name or something not inappropriate. If they refuse to change their name, I would ask them again for the second and final time. If they do not change their name after second warning, I would kick them or ban, if necessary, for an appropriate amount of time.

Background Noise: If someone has a background noise, I would inform the player and suggest push-to-talk. If necessary, I would give them forced push-to-talk.

18+/Vulgar Content or Material: If I find that a player has sent a vulgar content and/or material through the chat, I would give them a warning and tell them not to post the said content. If they spam the link on the chat, I would warn them to stop. If they fail to do so, I would kick them or ban, if necessary, for an appropriate amount of time. If a player has an inappropriate profile picture, I would tell them to change their avatar. If necessary, I would kick/ban the player for a needed period of time.

Flame War or Profanity: If I see someone flaming, I would warn them and tell them to stop. If they continue to flame, I would kick them or ban, if necessary, for an appropriate amount of time.

Recording without Permission: If I notice someone recording without permission, I would tell them to stop and delete anything that they’ve recorded.

Playing Music: If they are playing music where music should not be playing, I would move the player to the Music and Recording channel.

Situation (as a staff member): You log on Brawl, and you’re told that there is a huge, game-breaking economy glitch. No Admins are online to solve the situation. What steps would you take to handle the issue?- I will write the maneuver below as to what I would do if I was told that there is a huge, game-breaking glitch.

    1. I would find where this game-breaking economy glitch is and quickly take action.
    2. If there were other staff members online, I would inform them about this situation and see if they can assist. If no staff members were online in-game, I would report the problem to any other online staff members via Forums, TeamSpeak, Slack, etc.
    3. If possible, I would start recording or taking screenshots to get evidence of players abusing the glitch.
    4. I’d tell the players to stop misusing the glitch and let them know that any rule breakers would be punished and kick for an hour.
    5. If there is no response from the informed staff members, I would continue attempting to keep all the players as calm as possible and keep catching any abusers and/or rule breakers, until coders and/or higher staff members are able to resolve the situation.

How many Brawl staff applications have you made in the past?- I have never made a Brawl staff application in the past. This is my first time submitting one.

What is the date of the last application you submitted?- I have never made a Brawl staff application in the past. This is my first time submitting one.

Do you have a working microphone?- Yes, I have a laptop with a built-in microphone. If the built-in microphone has an issue for some reason (happens quite often), I have a pretty good headset with a microphone that I could use.

Are you able to record and upload videos?- Yes, I am able to record and upload videos. I can use the default Webcam application that I have on my laptop since it allows me to record screens. However, if I am in a hurry to record the screen, I can get to Windows 10 Game Bar using the Xbox app shortcut (Win + Alt +G) to quickly get it set up.

Do you generally know how all the staff member commands work?- Yes, I have read the thread about the server ranks that were stated by Cuddled and IronRaven. The in-game commands are /kick (kicks a player; up to an hour), /mute (mutes a player; up to an hour), and /prune (clears chat). The forum permissions are lock and unapprove threads or posts in the gamemodes section. For TeamSpeak, the permissions would be kick from room and server, ban (up to an hour), and apply server groups (Muted, Chat Muted, Push-to-Talk, and Jailed). (Information was taken from here)

Anything else we should know about you?- My name is Sophia, but I’m actually considering on changing my name in the next year, which I’m excited about. I am in grade 11 but I don’t go to (traditional) school. However, I still like to be educated so I made a decision to take online school. At first, it may take time for me to get used to talking with people, but I am rather clumsy, goofy and weird once you get to know me. I am a massive animal lover, but no shock there since I grew up with many different kinds of pets around me. I would list all of them out but it would be very long. Also, I am actually Korean which seems to surprise quite a lot of my Internet friends.

It’s been a while since I’ve wanted to apply for this position and I tried really hard and did my best to improve my qualities to fit the requirements and I believe I am now ready to apply. It would be much appreciated if you can leave me a honest feedback whether it’s via private message, on my profile page, or just on the application itself. Thanks for your time and consideration.

No, he does not. He has never touched my computer nor is interested in using it considering he has a computer of his own.

You very clearly meet all the activity requirements that are needed for staff. When I talked to you on an alt (ts and in-game), you were very friendly and polite, confirming that you meet the maturity/helpfulness requirements. One thing that I think that you should work on a bit is connecting with some of the notable community members outside creative/build if you do get your application accepted. Also, make sure that you actually want this position, as you seemed doubtful when applying. However, these little flaws become negligible when looking at the bigger picture of you as an applicant. Keep up the good work, and good luck with your application.

    tl;dr: +1

Thank you so much for taking time to give me a feedback, Doges! I will definitely try to work on connecting with the notable players outside Build/Creative. And regarding my decision of applying, I am positive that I do want this position, considering I have been thinking about applying for more than 6 months. I truly appreciate your support and I will keep up the good work for sure!

    Potato!
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry for not being one of the first ones to respond. I've been trying to think of how to respond to this.
    So here it goes:
I think your application is very well done. Your Teamspeak activity is questionable, however, your forums activity is better than my own. I give you props for all of this. The only problem I have here is that you aren't all that engaged on Build, and you tend to stay quiet when I'm online. I feel like you have great potential to become a Junior Moderator on Build, but as I just stated above, this is literally my only problem. Just try to get yourself out there and be more engaging and involved with other players. Make it a second nature for yourself, don't just be involved to become JMOD, that's not how it works :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyways, my final answer is a +1.
    There you have it.

    Good luck!

    ~N

Thanks so much for your response, Flavorous! I can guarantee you that I've been very active on TeamSpeak and slowly working on (verbally) talking with players on the public channels. I will try to work on becoming more engaged and involved with other players on Build and just everywhere in general. I appreciate you for taking the time to leave me a feedback, thank you for the support!

I really don't know you, but the 2-3 times I've been on build/creative, I've seen you on each time. Your application is very well written, and you have more posts than I do. I've seen you on TS a bunch, so that requirement is complete. I really am just restating what the other mods have already said so, here's my +1.

It seems the other mods have beat me too this, and have said what I would. Only thing I'd tell you to improve on is communicating through ts a bit more and talk a little more in global chat. If it's not clear, you've got my plus one.

Thanks Slovak! I'll definitely try to work on talking with players on TeamSpeak and in global chat as well. I appreciate your support
