    I use QuickTime Player, it's built in on every mack device and lets me record in 1080P if I want to.

    I use Fraps. I'd recommend getting the free version before buying it so you can see if your computer can handle it, though.

    You can get cracked versions of good recording software but be careful with them because many of them will have a virus or something else nasty you don't want to get on your computer.

    I use Fraps as well. I find it easy to record shot video clips when I need it. It's also very quick to pull up and begin recording.

    Free, but requires Java. No limits on recording length or quality whatsoever.

    Although it's not very good, I use screencast-o-maatic. It's free and has a 15 minute recording limit.

    I use camtasia, you get a free 1 month trial. Its a recorder and an editor. You can speed up videos and make animations.
