Did you read my post right? There is no way around it. Most people that play this server are not very mature and don't take warnings as seriously as someone that actually cares about their reputation. There's no way around it.

And I'm saying that blocking out the chat message containing profanity completely, would discourage it because what's the point of being angry if you can't get attention from it. They are attention seekers. They will stop once they realize they won't even be able to chat if they swear. Kapiche?

    Well.
    Hm.
Personally, I don't like to see people swear. I'm 16 and it still bugs me.
A swear word is a "Bad" word. I don't really see what it has to to with maturity.

Even if certain people don't consider it something awful, or even noteworthy, the whole POINT of a swear word is that its a "bad" word. The word spoken specifically has negative connotations, whatever it was.
Why does this depend on maturity? What makes an adult, (who probably understands more what the word means-)"responsible" enough to swear, as opposed to the kid, who either doesn't even know what it means or doesn't really understand the details behind it?

I have the same issue with R rated movies and such. Why can't the kid watch it? Because its not good for him. So what changes when you get older? Its not any better for you, especially now that you really understand it.
For me, it seems the word "Mature" has turned into less of a "responsible" term, and more of "Can decide to make a bad choice for themself." Shouldn't responsible mean that you AVOID those bad choices?

The perfect example for me is bicycle helmets. In some states, it is required by law to wear a helmet... until you are sixteen. And then you can decide not to wear it! Which really just seems dumb to me. If you have a law about something potentially dangerous (or life-saving), why change it depending on how old they are? How does that make sense?

Of course, I could be going into the huge speech about how laws and people and choices but I'm going to stick to the subject. That, up there, is my personal opinion. Swearing is "bad". No matter how you look at it, the whole point of a swear word is that its a bad thing. The whole point! So I don't see how that changes depending on your age.

From a more professional standpoint, I think the chat filter is a great idea because it brings in more players.
Since there is one, it appeals to people like me who just don't like swearing, and smaller kids who avoid servers with swearing because their parents might see, or kids who get their games monitored or whatever.
And since apparently Brawl has a good portion of younger players, if they switched to no chat filter, they would lose a lot of profits. That usurps everything else. It doesn't matter if YOU think the younger kids should be able to stand the swearing or not. It matters if the PARENTS think their children should be exposed to that.

I am NOT directing this post toward anyone in particular. It is simply something I have been thinking about for a while and this is the perfect opportunity to post it. :grinning:

Synonym for ****- feces or trying to tease someone. There's 1,000s of ways to insult/tease someone or refer to feces. How about a harmless word like damn (pronounced dam if it's also filtered on the forums), that I use damn near all of the time? Does anyone know if stupid, idiotic, and dumb are also censored? Because if so, I'm running out of words that can be used to describe the chat filter.

I voted for swearing should be allowed. It's looks way more offensive when it is covered with ****.
Also things like: 'Oh no ffa again' won't be turned into: 'Oh no f** **ain'.

Why do you want swearing to be allowed? So you can sound like an idiotic immature child? All swearing means is you have a poor vocabulary.

    Fallacy! :open_mouth:
    Argumentem non sequitur.

Swearing does not mean that you have a poor vocab.

People who swear are likely to be more truthful (many case and naturalistic studies have concluded this). And children won't learn how to use swearing maturely if they're hindered from using it ;D

Personally, I believe that swearing shouldn't be allowed. I know there are many reasons why people would disagree with me. Kids play on this server. Everybody on this server loves to play on it. If swearing was allowed, the swearing would become excessive. Kids' parents' could find out about the swearing and would force them to stop playing on brawl, or even stop playing minecraft. If there is a chat filter, then everybody would have a friendlier game experience. Swearing can offend people and often disturb them. Plus, swearing will influence kids to swear. I know that many kids these days swear, but allowing swearing on here isn't going to help make that better. In some games, like creative or build, people don't swear as much as they do in competitive games like party, pvp, war, etc. So, I believe that we should have a toggle feature.

A lot of brawls community is made up of younger children, or people who do not like swearing.
