So I have been playing some Wild West recently, and I have gotten very interested in the sheriff system. It seems to have a TON of potential, sadly it is only living up to part of it (no offense on those who originally designed it, I could have never though of these ideas without the base you have already provided), so here it goes.

The Main Idea: I propose that we put in a system of legal ranks that each have different authorities and roles.

    The Roles (Lowest to Highest)
    1. Recruit ~ This is the role first obtained by players who apply for a police job. All that recruits can do is handcuff people for inspection by higher ranks. Recruits generally tag along with higher officers to assist them rather then going on their own jobs.
    2. Officer ~ This is basically what Sheriff is now.
    3. Deputy ~ This is a officer who has been temporarily given the same authority's as Sheriff for preforming a specific task. However, they can not award points, which a sheriff may.
    4. Sheriff ~ Sheriffs can do what officers can do now, but without warrant. They can search anyone they feel on sight, pardon someone from prison, clear someones bounty and kill rather then arrest. They may also reward recruits with points, which is a system that will be explained later in this post. Finally, they may send lower officers on "Missions" which they assign.
    5. "The Big Guns" ~ Staff (the lowest rank that gets this is up to you) that are not bound by the same laws officials are but may arrest, search and handcuff at will, as well as reward points and assign missions.
Points: In order for recruits to rank up to officer (Officers to sheriff is by staff promotion only), they must accumulate a good number of "points", however if their points drop to low, they will go down to officer or even be put on suspension, in which case they temporarily loose all authority and are reviewed by a staff member. Points are received for successfully completing missions, stopping gangs (you know, those annoying groups that hang out around the processing houses and kill anyone who comes near-bye), placing arrests, generally being a helpful sidekick like entity etc. This can either be manually (command) or automatic (explained more in detail). The amount of points needed for each rank and the amount given are really up the the staff, as it just depends on how long they want it to take.

Missions: Missions are tasks assigned to lower ranking officers by sheriffs (and big guns) that may be completed for points (option, OFC). Missions would award varying amounts of points depending on how long takes, but would be worth more then just arresting, gang hunting etc. These missions would be things such as "Arrest ____, Kill _____, Patrol _____ for so long".

Police should also spawn with some sort of special defense to help them, such as a gun and better armor (That might already be a thing, but I asked on the server and got no reply so yeah...).Tickets should have a due date that u have to pay them by at a bank rather then have to be payed instantly. However, if you don't pay on time, your sentence grows exponentially until a cop catches you and arrests you for unpayed fines (Or you could turn yourself in to prevent it from growing). Finally, I believe that police should still be able to do drugs, but if caught by another officer they would be referred to for demotion, so it is kind of a risk.

Of course, if any abuse were to happen, such as sheriffs giving their friends tons of points for free, staff action would be taken.
I am completely open to ideas here! I am probably forgetting something, so if I am point it out, I would rather be corrected then look like a moron xD.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post! I hope these ideas can help make the server a better, more enjoyable place!

I like the missions idea, but could you explain a little bit more what you want to do with the different rankings? It doesn't seem like it is clear to me.

The different rankings is basically a way to provide those who are good at what they are doing and have been at it for a while more authority. In real life, you don't just walk in your first day as a cop and be the leader. You have to start with jobs such as giving parking tickets before you have a chance to go and catch criminals. I am basically trying to embody that sort of working your way up the ladder idea.

That would be cool, but I think the application system of Sheriffs ( here ) is fine at the moment. What if people have good authority but don't want to be cop? That's why you apply.

By authority I mean how much power they have over others, not how trustworthy there are. Also, you still have to apply to be recruit, you don't just log on and find yourself a cop because some sheriff wanted you to be.

Ah, now it all makes sense to me. I like your idea, although, I think the current system is fine. If anything happens to the "Apply for sheriff system", I'd recommend this.

Personally, I love the ideas you presented here. Especially your ticket idea. The tickets system in place now is absurd; not many people carry around enough money in their wallets to pay the fines that are given to them. Fines should be paid at the banks and should accumulate interest over time. The tiered sheriff system is cool too, but I feel like the one problem with it is that there might end up being too many sheriffs (or sheriff helpers, but for the sake of saving time I am just going to call them sheriffs). This would make drug runs impossible because they could assign multiple sheriffs to all the rebel bases. If the number of sheriffs was limited, this could work. All in all, these are great ideas.

Thanks! Glad you like it. Wouldn't overflow in sheriffs still be an issue even without the system? More people would be accepted early on to fill the slots now, seeing as the game-mode just released, then as we go farther into the future staff would be more conservative of slots and demote those who are inactive, which is what I assume is happening now anyway.

I really like your ideas for the sheriff rankings, maybe if you were a newer sheriff you would be given small tasks such as watching over towns and keeping an eye out for people robbing the conductors. Once you build up more experience, you could do bigger things such as watching over cartels and rebel bases.

    It's a good idea.
But the rankups have to be very hard to get.
Getting The Big Guns should be as hard as getting level 150/200 on war.

I like your ideas but I have one concern.

Technically a sheriff is a role playing job and a sheriff's goal shouldn't involve killing an x amount of people via your missions section.

I understand if you just used it for an example.

Sorry, but with these ranks the system would only get worse.
Recruit - We only have very few sheriffs, so we need to allow all of them to perform the basic tasks including ticketing.
Sheriff & The Big Guns - SMod+ will be able to clear bounties and release from prison (will only be used to fix bugs though). Allowing Sheriffs to kill on sight and inspect everyone will absolutely destroy how Wild West works because nobody could feel safe even if they stick to the rules. There is no way we are going to implent this system

Sheriffs spawn with Protection 1 iron armor with is equivalent to diamond armor and with specific superior guns. They can also purchase upgrades at the Sheriff HQ.

Adding this would mean that players who were caught doing something illegal would be able to stay at the scene of crime. All sheriffs couldn't really feel safe if they know that the player they just ticketed could still attack them.

I was just trying to use an example, that would be something if there was somebody with a bounty so high that they would have the death scentance (IK it's not a thing in this game but you get the point).

I understand. Thanks for taking the time to review it and responding with the issues.
