    @Lord_Roke why is charcoal being sold at the food merchant? Are there/meant to be furnaces?

    Yes, there are furnaces at most food merchants where you can cook raw meat. :V Nothing special.

    You can kill wild animals for raw meat without having to buy it at the butchery. Of course, they're not that common. What's weird is that wolves drop raw chicken. They should drop raw beef, like cows, because dog meat is a red meat.
    How do I know this? I Googled it out of sheer morbid curiosity.

    You can find furnaces close to every food merchant and they can be used. Cooking food yourself instead of buying it is slightly cheaper but you will have to wait for it to finish cooking.
