I thought of this just today and haven't been able to get it off my mind. I feel like the mod app system is flawed, only slightly. See, since mods are the only ones who can respond to mod apps (which is a great system which prevents pointless posts and spam) you can get biased input. For example, since mods are brought to position by positive community feedback, they have to be well-connected and well-rehearsed in community interactions. This means that they'd be more likely to vote a biased +1 based on friendship (unconsciously, of course), and would be more open to ideas they support and less open to dissenting views. I've noticed a large trend in votes. Mods' votes are almost always +1 to a candidate that has a decent amount of posts and community interaction, but the poll built into the thread shows more -1s than the mods' view alone would suggest. This opens the probability that the community is having valuable points and views shut out of the mod process, and people with those points and views aren't willing to compose a tactful PM or profile post to explain themselves. It's easier to post directly on a thread that to make a whole new one.
My suggestion is that, if possible, there could be two separate sections on a mod app for mod responses and community responses. This would open the mod process to more unbiased views (and, admittedly, more biased ones) and would reduce the gap between mod responses and community responses. Personally, I try to compose PMs of my thoughts to any applicants I think are very close to being good material for mod status. This includes @Glock_Fanatic, @DPV, @Algelier, and @Arpy, among others. I try to be unbiased (probably my response to Arp was a bit biased, but I can only do so much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [jk]) and because of this I feel like I can give actual helpful advice to applicants. The idea of "Mod app reviewer" has been suggested before, but this won't work for a few reasons. First, the application for that could be tedious to make, fill out, and respond to. Secondly, if it weren't done by application, there will always be people who disagree with it. Furthermore, people can always abuse their power or not do anything with it. This is why I propose two response sections. This would allow people to both construct valid views and responses. This would help moderators become better applicants, would decrease bias in the process, and would overall make the process more balanced.

tl;dr: Add two sections for responses to mod applications, because it would decrease bias and make the system more helpful for applicants.

Yes to this idea. Also, I think that those in possession of the former staff tag should have access to commenting on staff applications. They were staff at one point, therefore they have the right to give +1s and -1s

Well I mean that's kinda how it is in the real world... If I apply for some corporate company, they're not going to care about what that hobo said on the street, or what that lady at the coffee shop says- let alone asks. They're going to value the opinion of their workers, and if they believe the candidate can get the job done, boom. Job. Unless they're like a felon or something... then no job.

And no, it's not as biased as you think it is. Staff members just have a heavier say.

Administrators look at their records, their history, and they may ask around in a few places. They monitor candidates closely.

But anyways, this isn't that much of an issue right now... Brawl is headed down the toilet along with several other servers.

Errr, no. Your employer does not require the workers insight because they haven't worked with you yet and because you haven't worked with them. They're also not going to ask a hobo on the street because that's completely irrelevant.
Sounds pretty biased to me. You can suck up to staff members for their vote, thus making you look better and giving you more +1s. Although votes aren't the only thing higher ups take into consideration when choosing staff, it looks pretty appealing to the community.
    +1.

This has been a problem in the past but I don't really think there's a way to prevent it. You can basically do anything to try and get staff. You just have to deal with it.

Thanks that you mentioned me? Haha, but seriously, your PM did actually helped as it was longer and more detailed than the mod responses. Of course, people like you kinda know what to do and critize the best you can. Having a public response section would be a good idea, but I'd suggest that only people with a certain amount of posts / likes can reply in there, that is because players could make new accounts or inexperienced players wouldnt fairly vote.
    +1 though.

In the real world, on your job applications you may add people on it who the company may contact to see how good of a worker you are. (Most likely previous employers) Why don't we make the Mod Applications like that? Well, idk. But I think we should. Or at least make Ehvahn be able to reply to mod applications. He is a good, nice guy who always votes the truth no matter what has happened between you and him in the past. This would make brawl so much more thriving if we have an old Mod helping pick and choose the new staff team. The new staff team pick clearly on their personal experience with the player. If the Staff Member hates you, they will give you a -1. If they are friends with you, they will give you a +1. And we all know if Ritzy gives a -1, it's an automatic deny. (Cuddled and him are liek weird and I think they like each other. That would be illegal tho.

It's just that not all of the community is mature.

    But I agree somewhat.

Off topic: I feel like staff (JMOD and MOD) are taking applicants too easy. ...what I mean/feel is that the applicants intellectual skill is not as good as it needs to be, but it's ignored.
What I mean by this is the way the applicant would progress in a real situtation. e.g. a conflict that is two sided.
Fortunetly @Canoodle is doing a great job. @BlueGuyARed deserves a shoutout too.

Some applicants are like little enthusiastic children; they promise to behave well but when they reach their goal, moral declines and they forget about the rules.
