    I was mining and I ran into the invisible barrier while travelling to Columbia. It is just me or have you accidentally put Columbia out of bounds? http://imgur.com/Z9TCnv6

    You're going to have to go around it. The barrier isn't straight in lot of places, and has bumps and curves.

    No I couldn't I was 500 blocks out before I ran into the barrier

    I've gone to it recently. It's not worth the effort, as there is hardly any ore. If you really wish to go there, heed the words in my previous post. There's a small town near it, but it's a PVP zone. You probably already knew that.
