    They weren't removed, you just can't craft them. You can still craft the normal ones, but the notch apples can only be found in dungeons, NPC villages .ect.

    The lack of gapples would be cool actually. Then people could focus on soup pvp more.

    Also, from researching, the second hand can be removed. This would disable shields basically and other weird pvp mechanics. I really do think that 1.9s pvping can be made better. It really isn't all that bad.
