Censor Levels

One question: Is it now legit to swear a lot with words that are censored on medium- and child filter?

 

What's the point of being able to do that?

No swear word is a "good word" and I can't imagine seeing that kind of stuff in chat would add much to the 'Brawl experience' (it didn't on McPVP for me) or anything. We have many kinds of social media with no swear filters that plenty of people use all the time (i.e., Skype, Discord, etc), and are all far and away better social platforms than the Minecraft chat, so why on earth would you care if you can see that sort of stuff in chat or not?

Heck, I swear a lot in Skype (not hyper sensitive to 'bad' words or anything), but I honestly see no reason for this.

 

Because it's a pointless addition to anyone who's got enough wherewithal to realize that those asterisks don't stop swearing.

Considering the chat filter will be optional, if somebody really doesn't want their feelings hurt by words that are arbitrarily taboo then they can still look at the nice, safe, attention drawing asterisks.

If someone's a grown adult who doesn't need toddlerblocks, they can have it off.

No point ruining one group's experience for the sake of another, the individual chat filter will be more fun for everyone.

 

I do have one question, will this filter affect moderators?

For example if people are spamming the '****', even though it is censored will they still need to act with kick/mutes ect? Or will it be not punishable unless you are really salty.

Lol. 'Ruining one group's experience'. Yes, the Brawl experience will be ruined if you can't see the ENTIRE swear word in chat. Please. We have Skype, Teamspeak, Discord, and I don't know how many other social platforms and you can say whatever you want at your heart's content. Many, many CTF'ers and Brawlers at large (hundreds) use these platforms.

For the second part of the quotation... how does getting to freely say g*ddamn in the Minecraft chat make Brawl more 'fun for everyone'. Because, it really doesn't do that at all. But you know what would make a Brawl game-mode, like CTF more fun? Not being kicked into the lobby from hell at the end of say, a CTF match, or making classes less boring and pointless and more quirky and fun (hint: a Necro rework) to play would, for starters, greatly improve the 'experience'.

I mean - and this is just me talking here - but when I log into Brawl it has never once crossed my mind that 'gee, you know what would make Brawl really fun? A toggle-able swear filter!!!'. However I have, on many occasions, wished I had a better internet connection and that classes like Necro, Dwarf, and Assassin would get a comprehensive rework, which numerous people (including myself) have been asking about (in game and especially on the forums), for the better part of three years (just so I'm misunderstood: I do understand Brawl has many important priorities other than CTF class reworks and does not make boatloads of cash from CTF).

I'm not sure if you've noticed but I like swearing. I like to swear, I like people swearing at me. Because, to me, swear words are just words used to emphasize a point or express displeasure. They don't offend me, and never have.

What does offend me (and this is one of the very few things on that list) is when people assume, on my behalf, what is and is acceptable for me to hear, read, or see. I am fully capable of making my own decisions and taking responsibility for what I say, and I understand fully that surrounding myself with people who are likely to swear, namely people on the internet... might just expose me to some swearing and vulgarity.

What I don't need is for anyone to tell me 'oh no, you can't see that, you might get offended'. That is a serious annoyance, because it's an assumption that is made on my behalf without my input.

I don't care if others want to keep their swear filters on, that's fine. If other people are made of glass then they hold every right to not listen to me. I don't care.

Besides, a swear filter that doesn't block out 'I hope you die of cancer' is exceptionally redundant. It's blocking words, not intent, and thus it's easily bypassable.

Brawl can code a swear filter. They can't code better internet.

 

I don't care who swears how how much. I simply see no point to a toggle-able swear filter.

You like swearing? Fine. So do I. Sometimes it just feels good to say "f*ck this" or whatever. I'm not offended (usually). But what is the point of adding a feature to be able to do that in a Minecraft chat with a select few people when you can use a far more sophisticated social platform (Skype, etc.) to do the same and not clutter the already-cluttered chat with "bad" words?

 

Because that would require downloading skype?

Why would I, mid game, want to click away from the game to cus in a sentence in a conversation with a player who won't even recieve it because I only know them from one game and thus don't have their skype contact?

 

I also listed Discord and Teamspeak neither of which require installation and one doesn't even need a download.

But I still need to click away from the game and continue a conversation with a player who I very likely don't know enough to have their contact info?

And if I'm including a swear in my sentence... I might not want their contact info anyways.

 

Awesome, this is a great problem solver. Great for those who can't tolerate swear words and great for people like me who like expressing themselves with swearing

 

What will be the command to toggle the filter level, or will it be in the hot bar?

 

Will this be on the forums as well?
