    Hey all,

    Don't worry. We certainly haven't forgotten about HG in the slightest. Over the past couple weeks, the staff team and I have had several discussions and come up with a ton of ideas we can implement this summer. We'd like to get your feedback on them before we steal @Totom3 back for some work on HG.

    The next change we plan on implementing gameplay wise is drastically changing the amount of kits available to users. We have thought of two possible ways for us to accomplish this task.

    1: Remove most of the kits, while keeping a core set of 30 kits that are balanced together. Based off of community polling and feedback - re-add certain kits to the game [if you have previously bought one of the kits removed and it is added back in, you'll still have it].

    2: Rotate a set of 30 kits every month or two. Make sure they balance each other out and based off of community polling, decide the next season.

    These are the two big changes we hope to bring this summer. Other ideas we are considering:
    • Having very frequent HG events. Any moderator can start up an event and a global announcement will be broadcasted via-twitter and all Brawl servers. Events can include KOTH, LMS, Team HG. This will also be included with one big HG event we are planning this summer. Or just keep having huge events that are announced like a week before [I've already discussed with the upper-staff team about having weekly big events this summer; but due to the global brawl event schedule it will not be possible so that everyone can attend the other ones as well].     • Changing the terrain of HG from it's normal, boring old self and bringing in some new biomes. Vote on this here: http://www.strawpoll.me/10461475

    Will anyone who previously bought kits that will be removed get to keep them, as long as they don't break the game?

    I like all the ideas, the playstyles however worry me. Pvpdojo was a great server until they added in the playstyles. It's incredibly hard to balance certain abilities with certain playstyles

    Coming from MCPVP and understanding how much of a cash cow HG kits were, and knowing how in demand they are, I don't know this is the right way to go.

    My gut says keep all kits in and tweak any that are either OP or UP. Soup vs Nosoup should basically be a flag you flip in code, and maintaining both shouldn't be an issue. If player volume is a problem, then maybe alternate soup with Nosoup, or work on getting more players in general?

    Dunno, but this feels like skinnying down HG, yet again.

    Yeah. However we do this, extensive testing is going to be necessary in order for it work efficiently.

    This is what we tried 3 months ago when HG got it's last major update, and the player count has just dropped, and we can't sustain enough servers to rotate soup and no-soup.

    I said in the post that the gameplay styles weren't original. However, we have not copied nor do we ever plan to copy anything from SimpleHG.

    Besides the fact we used the ideas, how do you feel about them?

    Looking good. My only concern is the new playstyle feature and how this will balance out with the different kit abilities. Nonetheless, looking forward to these changes and community events. My hope is that HG won't be so repetitive and will actually be more of a challenge to win.

    The new play styles are not going to work. Trust me. I have tried to PotPvP with a stone sword no armour, and it doesn't work. You can't PotPvP if you take more than 2 hearts a hit, it's not fun. Furthermore, 1 stack of each + full inven > 50 hearts. Scrap the idea. One idea to help the noobs is to reduce the damage taken per hit, eg wood sword: 1.5, stone: 2.

    For the kits, I would rather start off with 30 per month, until a proper decision can be made on whether to remove or buff certain kits. I'm thinking of a total of 40 kits at the end. 30 is too little, there's a lot of room for new kits. I'm hoping the 40 kits cover almost everything needed in a kit.

    For events, I would rather have large-scale QQs every (2?) months or so. Have qualifying and stuff, and have the announcement appear a month before, in chat, forums, and using the MCPVP channel, and whenever someone joins Brawl, the announcement of the QQ will appear across their screen. The most important thing is that people know there's an event, the best way is through chat and YouTube. QQs create hype, lots of hype, and so should affect player counts as long as people know about it.
