One way to bring back MCPVP veterans is through hosting events, so hosting events should not be taken lightly. The tournament needs to have ~0% lag. On top of this, the tournament needs to be advertised, in-game chat, when picking a kit (I'll elaborate on this), in the forums, and through the MCPVP channel. To encourage people to buy things, Brawl needs to have a qualifying for the tournament. How?

I'm quite sure Brawl doesn't have a way to track wins, so my idea revolves around credits. To qualify for a tournament, the player must pay a certain amount of credits, maybe 15k. It can't be too cheap or too expensive. This can encourage people to buy the credit boosters.

How to draw attention to the tournament
    • Whenever someone joins a HG server, it will say in chat: "Qualify for the Brawl Quarter Quell! *link to forums*". Furthermore, this message will be shown sporadically in chat.
    • Only during the qualification period, in the kit selector chest, the option to qualify for the tournament is given. It should be in the top row, middle slot, above the blaze powder. When someone clicks on it, it will put the forums link in the chat, and in the chest it will display the price needed to join the tournament. Below there is the option to join tournament, and if someone clicks on it, it will redirect to the confirm page, the same as that of the kit purchasing one. As soon as someone joins the tournament, it will announce in chat: "xxx has is now qualified for the Brawl Quarter Quell". On the forums, there should be a link to show who has qualified for the tournament, I'm sure this can be done.
    • Probably one of the most important ones, advertise through YouTube. I know Brawl is scared of the hate they will receive, but if you don't even try, what's the point? Even if there is a lot of hate, which shouldn't be the case coz it's a MCPVP gamemode, you may attract back that 10-20 players who may return to Brawl after realising it's good.

    tl;dr
Credits is the way to qualify for the tournament.

Good idea. I hate how Brawl has let the MCPVP Youtube channel go to waste.

We are already planning to announce future events on HG (hopefully also on other server) with videos on the Brawl/MCPVP channel. Participation based on credits is interesting because it limits the amount of players and can thus prevent lag. It also ensures only experienced players can participate, so very nice idea!

I had an idea for the next big tourney, but this is biggie.
You have to be qualified to participate (duh).
You have to have registered your team on the forums.
Solo players have no restriction on theri kit choice.
Duo players have 60 kits available (assuming there are 60 kits still left).
And the biggest team size is 3. They can pick from 10 kits.
The way the kits are chosen is by vote (e.g. a strawpoll or forum poll here).
    What do you think?

You really seem set on having a qualification period, don't you?

When it comes to events, in addition to a big one we are planning soon - I think I'm going to start doing them with much less planning, like yesterday. We hit our player-cap easily with about 5 minutes before the tournament started. Before we host any huge ones with qualifying periods and such, I think we need to be sure our servers can still function with 120+ players.

It encourages people to buy the credit boosters!

Let me emphasize the need to advertise the events through chat:

Why. Did. You. Tell. That. ... about these. He literally worsens every HG game I see him in. I'm sorry, but I have to say this. He really doesn't like the community /care about it.

You're missing the point. He is very active on Brawl but he didn't even know there was an event.

He isn't active. He farms his kills on new players and then whenever someone good comes in he gets full iron, kills them, and says easy (or something relatable).
Whatever, I think these unannounced events are really nice, as it means that people with ranks can still have some fun, and those without would be enticed to buy one!

Pretty sure we already have a ton of encouragement to buy boosters, and yet they haven't been selling very well thus far.

It might be because they have too little influence on the game. I also think that people with ranks should get a small credit multiplier (someting like x1.25 for ELITE (CREDIT TO THIS IDEA GOES TO SOMEONE WHOSE NAME I CANNOT REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT MINE), which is small enough to still be EULA friendly.

TBH I haven't really gotten any encouragement to buy boosters. Think about it this way. The price to join the tourney is 20k, and there is a 3 week qualification period. People will be eager to join, and so they start to play. However, 2 weeks have passed and they only have 12k or so. To qualify, they will buy the booster and activate it, so they have a higher chance of qualifying. If the booster runs out and they still don't have enough credits, they may buy again.

$5.00 is to much for only 2x the number of credits for an hour. It either needs to be 3 the number of credits or needs to be bumped down to $2.00.
