[Un-Official] Brawl Discord Server - Link, Discussion, and Information

I dont see how this is an argument against Discord, as the program is free for all. This reasoning is what caused things such as the EULA to be enforced and we both know that with its intentions being good it hurts Brawls possible revenue gain

The argument against discord is that people shouldn't have to pay money to change their UI to their liking.
Game cosmetics work and are worth the money, Software cosmetics doesn't make sense and shouldn't be a thing, they should invest into finding other ways to profit.

I wont disclose too much information but Brawl has had experiences of corruption that I've heard of regarding information that higher ups had, and Discord has yet to have such a situation occur. All in all this is nitpicky.

This isn't really nitpicky, this is a general concern over privacy. Brawl's "corruption" is at most the leaking of I.P. Addresses, which are the least of my concerns. My real concern with Discord is this:


"By uploading, distributing, transmitting or otherwise using Your Data with the Services, you grant to us a nonexclusive, transferable, royalty-free, sublicensable, and worldwide license to use Your Data, subject to the Company’s Privacy Policy."

This means they get to spy on and if they wanted to, sell, our:

• Chat messages
• Voice COMMS
• IP Address
• Other data

This directly is a risk and a privacy concern.
If someone were to hack our TeamSpeak, the most they would get is connection logs and server logs.

If someone were to hack Discord, they would get all chat messages, connection logs, and comms, and whatever else data Discord stores.

I don't think Discord cares about our NDA Minecraft Server ideas, but the fact that it would be at any risk and Chap/Putty have no power to do anything about it, is a security concern.


The preference thing: as I noted, its preference. Nobody has to agree or disagree on that one.

You can easily set a player's role to completely mute and make any chats unreadable if ban evasion becomes an issue, they wont be "banned" off the server but they'd be essentially unable to interact anyway.

How does that fix anything I've stated unless you plan to make it so default users can't interact with anything?
If they get muted or become unable to interact, they'll just get on another account to evade it. This is why our ability to block proxies is a key point here.

With the aid of Discord Bots permissions are well enough to handle a decently sized Discord group.

Note this argument I stated earlier:

Banning:
We have limitations on how long a specific rank can ban, this, is not possible on Discord.
If you have the ban permission, it comes in 1 way, permanent. That's stupid.

This is why even though we may not use even half of what Teamspeak offers permission-wise, why the customization is important for our community.

People can't create their own channels, because if they have this permission, they get to modify EVERY. CHANNEL.

As I make this post, (12:30 AM EST), there are currently 26 custom channels made by the community. What would happen if we made a full switch to Discord and all of a sudden that ability was taken away from them? They'd go back to Skype or make their own private Discord (I mean, it only does take a press of a button). Theres a reason the public channels in TeamSpeak are empty.

That is correct, it doesn't. I put that there to prevent people from saying it would cut costs on Brawl's part.

he argued that discord is "simpler" and "more user friendly" because of this.. "feature". It's not, you'd still have to setup stuff like you would on an application, and it would be stupid not to download the application anyway. It's an irrelevant argument to it being "user friendly" and "better than teamspeak"


ALL IN ALL:
People can use what they want to use, but I can say that Brawl is far more invested in TeamSpeak than switching to Discord.

 

As long as Teamspeak doesn't get removed I could care less if Brawl invests into a discord server for other players to use.
Teamspeak > Discord
