How to Effectively Counter Sheriffs

I have noticed lots of speculation within players on the topic of sheriff “immortality”, so I decided to put together a few tips and tricks, as well as necessities to taking on players who play as sheriffs within Wild West.


What you will need:

1. Confidence: An absolute must. It doesn’t matter if you have maxed gear and all the illegal weapons slotted within your hotbar. If you don’t think you can take on a sheriff and win, you probably won’t be able to.
   
   
2. Horse: Unless you are confident in your skills, the safest and most efficient method of dealing a sheriff attacks are lightning quick boom and zoom attacks. Generally, sheriffs remain grounded, as they do not wish risking their horse while they are taking a look around illegal areas. With a horse, you are able to ride in and deliver a volley of bullets in the general area of the sheriff, before quickly vacating the area before the sheriff can return fire. Toy around with the sheriff, and when he appears to have let his guard down, strike quickly, mercifully, and of course, cautiously. I would also like to mention that should you let a sheriff sneak away with an accurate shot, your horse will generally taking the hit, leaving you at maxed health and ready to proceed on foot. Speedy is highly recommended, but it can be done with the Runner.
   
   
3. Weaponry: Generally, with the tactics I have discussed, a weapon is mandatory for exterminating sheriffs. If you aren’t confident in your weapon skills, practice against immotile targets, such as Indians. Illegal weapons are highly recommended, especially the T-Gewehr and Model, but it can be done with legal weapons.
   
4. Armor(not needed, but highly recommended): If you are able to execute boom and zoom attacks accurately and cautiously, you should not need to worry about the sheriff landing any hits on you. However, it is always nice, as a stray Coach bullet might dent your avatar.
   
   
5. Team(not needed, but recommended): A team is always nice to have handy whilst taking on sheriffs. If you had a team of 2-4 players on horseback, the damage to the sheriff would be devastating, as the sheriff would not be able to divert his attention to any single player and with four guns aimed at him, there would be no place for him but the depressing “You Died” page. Same with a team on foot, though it will be easier for sheriffs to pick off players one at a time.
   

Sheriff Pros:

• Protection One Iron Armor
  
  
• Repeater-Default Sheriff Rifle, better than the best Bandit Rifle, the T-Gewehr
  
  
• Sheriff Horse- 0.05 faster than Runner
  
  
• Speedy Horse- Same speed as fastest Bandit Horse
  
  
• Strength in numbers (sometimes)
  
  
• Free gear, will continue to return to the scene of his death until his killer has been silenced
  
  
• Melee Masters with their handcuffs
  

Sheriff Cons:

• Cannot shoot first.
  
  
• Coach Gun- Default Sheriff Shotgun, worse than the best Bandit Shotgun, the 1894 Model (debated)
  
  
• S&W- Default Sheriff Pistol, worse than the best Bandit Pistol, the C96 Mauser
  
  
• Can be spawnkilled, only in Frisco
  
  
• Target practice for many experienced players
  
  
• Have a strict guideline that they must abide by
  
  
• Do not often receive help from neutral players
  
  
• Can be overwhelmed sometimes
  

Sheriff Stats:

Protection 1 Iron Armor

T-Gewehr ---> 1-2 shot

Model ----> 2-? shots(depends how much you spray)

Mauser ---->4-6 shots

Sawed-Off ---> 3? shots (have only made one sheriff kill off it)

Carcano ---> 4-6 shots (estimation)


Note: These are against sheriffs with default gear.


Escape Routes:

Shrooms ---> Back to town, store stuff.

Coco ---> Away from town, up the mountains.

Poppy ---> Head out of the processor perpendicular to the opening of gate. There, after a few hundred blocks of traveling, you should find a river. Turn right and then keep going until you find the bridge that contains train trackers. Follow those tracks until you reach lose rogue status. Get off the tracks and travel away from them, to ensure that you shake off any followers.

Amarillo ---> Back to town, store stuff.

Wildgrass ---> Travel on the train tracks opposite the direction of Frisco. After a thousand or so blocks of travelling, you will find a set of train tracks. Left leads to Harshaw, right leads to Shaniko. Take your pick
