How to Actually Make Balanced AP Mines

    *This is not a suggestion. This is simply discussing how AP Mines would act if added.*

    I've seen a lot of suggestions for Claymores/Bouncing Betties, and other various AP mines.

    In no Goddamned way are these suggestions balanced, however.

    People just seem to want a mine that you can place and forget for free, easy kills.

    Mines shouldn't work that way.
    They should only excel when used strategically; when thinking.
    (Which, uh, I doubt 75% of the playerbase here can do, but hey)

    What do I suggest?

    Well, the Claymore and Bouncing Betty are both fine ideas, so I'll stick to those.

    Claymore.
    Should be directional.
    Only activates in a, say, 100-150 degree radius.
    Uh, let's just make an image.

    It would only instant kill you if you were extremely close to it, and severely wound you if you were somewhat far from it.
    It would probably instantly blow up as soon as it detects a player.

    The damage would only be in one direction, not every direction.

    On to Bouncing Betties.
    These are the mines everyone actually wants.

    Bouncing Betties would do a full 360 degree circular amount of damage, but would give the enemy some time to run away.

    Once upon detecting an enemy player, the mine will fly up (if possible), and detonate after 1 second, giving the enemy some time to run away, if they react fast enough.

    Overall, claymores are the mines that actually kill, but they require some strategical thinking to work as area denial.
    Bouncing Betties are more of a "LOL **** YOU ALL" mine.

    Perhaps make the damage not and insta kill but good enough to make the player panic and die anyway.

    Put the flower pot around the corner so when they turn, they're too slow to react to it.

    Retextured pressure plates for mines ? But gold ones for stopping glitching

    How noticeable do you want the mines to be? Personally, I think they should be pretty hard to notice. Anyways, great job Tac. This would definitely balance the mines out if they are added.

    Flowerpots are fairly visible.
    I'd say that.
    They're meant to make you think where to place them.
    I.E. around corners, so people don't immediately see them and shoot it.

    As far as I'm concerned, anyone who wants invisible or near-invisible mines have no brain and just want a place-down-for-free-kill mine.

    It should be a retextured flower or scrub. But the idea is good.

    Maybe make the mines small enough where they ain't invisible but they would be hard to see.

    Also, instead of grenade for voting, why not claymores?
    I would definitely use claymores more. Use them on a tight corner all day long.
    I think you balanced these very well. Good job tac.

    Tac, you did a good job stating the issue and the solution. I would like AP mines as long as they were balanced like you said. The damage radius you proposed is reasonable.
